I forgot how good Vito Bratta was...

Here's the interview with Eddie Trunk were he explains his hand injury. Sounds like it happened but it was something he could recover from, more of an excuse for stopping when really there were a bunch of reasons. All very understandable, but the hand injury is neat and tidy. I wish he'd come back in some form publicly, but when it's all said and done he has to want it.

I had "trigger finger" on my right index finger from acoustic fingerpicking (yes I like music other than rock/metal).
Had surgery and couldn't play for a long long time....when i did it was like starting over again. It's still not 100% but I can hold a pick now.

I feel for anyone who goes through hand injuries...totally sucks. Glad Vito recovered.

The Definitive Rock Collection is the one with the cool live stuff where Vito's ripping it up....listening to it now.

another example of a great player that's overlooked by many because of a lead singer that nobody can stand

lol....surprised at the WL band hate....I really love their debut album "Fight To Survive"....production is a little rough but great tunes on there....Broken Heart (original version, not remix), Cherokee, El Salvador....all killer.

I always thought he was a better version of EVH. :D

Steve

I figured that would grab your attention.

What I meant by that is Vito took Eddie's tricks/gynastics on the guitar and smoothed them over, made them more melodic. A little more substance vs. flash if that makes sense? ;)

I agree Darren. Little Fighter is one of my favorite solos from that era.

What he said. That's also one of my favorite solo's from the 80's and there are lots of killer fills throughout the song.

As a lead guitarist, he is definitely like a super melodic Eddie. Very fluid, melodic lead player - more so then Eddie. However, no Eddie, no Vito. I prefer EVHs raw aggression and off-the-cuff originality...

I admire both for the work they have done....depends on the day on which I prefer ...EVH definitely the pioneer though !

.....This is what i think .Eddie had a devil may care .reckless abandon to his playing ..not really following timing much looser and less laid out .
Bratta used a more melodic approach .controlled ,well though out and structured not as aggressive

been listening to Pride - man I love his playing and tone on that!

ADA MP1 + Marshalls on Pride IIRC.

Necro bump : One of Leslie West's old Marshall Superleads with both channels wired together and an added master volume plus an old TS808 tube screamer on Pride...ADA was on Big L(G)ame album. The guitar was a 70s Fender strat with a JB and an HS3 and an added Floyd that Michael Wagner told him to never get rid of 'cuz it sounded so good, and it was only "retired" because the Floyd posts were falling out...hence the switch to 48th St Customs ESPs.

EDIT: I just found an old article where he describes the Strat used on Pride as a heavy, 1979 sunburst strat with an added Floyd and a Duncan '59, NOT a JB (he used JBs on the tour for Pride in his ESPs). This would mean it's an ash body if it's that heavy, and nothern hard ash at that.

sorry for the necro bump

Vito was awesome!!!

Oh man, Pride is such a great record. I like Fight for Survival too, but the tone on Pride just blows my mind its so good. I like some of the tunes on Big Game and Mane Attraction too, but they put keyboards in the mix and fucked it all up...plus the Steinbergers, EMGs, and ADA/Carvin amps didn't help either...too glossy. Pride is so raw.

yeah Vito to me was so good. Like a mix of Lynch and Eddie....but with his own vibe.
Used to watch his concert over and over when White Lion did the MTV show. Such a killer player.

Bratta was a good player, no doubt. It is laughable to compare him to Eddie. Not even close to being in the same league.....crazy fucking talk :loco:
