I'd go with a modded marshall. BTW you spelt megadeth wrong.

Ya I know

I'm in the middle of writing a paper for history class and I have used the word "death" about 50 times in the last 1/2 hr and my dyslexia kicked in haha

I'd go about it one of two ways.

1. Get whatever Splawn is in your wheelhouse for features/cost.
2. Buy a superlead/superbass/ceriatone/metropoulos head and send it to Dave Friedman for mods.

I would love to know more about Dave's mods but I can't really find any info other than his racksystems site. I think theres Brown eye, hairy brown eye.... are they just like a Jose HG mod??? I would still be worried about not having a clean channel...

If you can get an amp worked on by Mike Fortin, Mark Cameron or Dave Friedman you will have the high gain Marshall tone kicked in the ass.

After listening to clips of Friedmans mods for the last 15 min.... I WANT ONE NOW!!!!! Can anyone tell me about the BE and HBE mods and what they are and what marshalls are a good, cheap mod platform for them??? Starting to think Ceriatone/metro

The Cameron Aldrich modded Marshall in the classifieds will blow your socks off, lot of clips of the amp on youtube. Have a listen.

I have a Friedman modded Metro with the Kitchen Sink mod, which is the BE, HBE, and Custom 45 mods in one package. The Brown Eye mod uses the stock 3 preamp tubes with added gain stages, The Hairy Brown Eye mod adds a 4th tube and more gain stages and is a little more compressed. I also got the fat switch and saturation switch options, they sound great. They roll off decent as long as the sat sw is not engaged, but I have no clean channel in mine. You do have to use different inputs for the BE, and HBE channels ;)

BTW, I was thinking a JVM 210. great clean channel, wicked gain on tap. Really good reverb. really versatile on how you can switch it. You can find a used one for around 1K

I now have a new plan........ ..............

A Ceriatone 50W plexi with the Freidman Kitchen Sink mod, saturation switch, clean channel and fx loop.

~$1000 for the plexi shipped + ~$1100 for the mods by Dave = The Ultimate Marshall for ~$2100

just need to find a cheap cab and I'm good to go....

Peters Polaris, though a little above your range mentioned.

Besides that, I don't think you should get a 50w Plexi. I played a 50w JCM 800 and it just didn't have the punch I wanted. Granted, it could sound way better with mods, but you could also get a 100w 2210 which already has a clean and you may be happy just playing it with a good OCD or RC Boost.

I'm gonna have to say JVM here. I own a few of the amps you listed and for a cover band the JVM will work great. The loops are excellent and the clean channel is the best clean tone of any hi gain head I have ever owned.

Yup, I am going to say JVM as well and wait for the blast of hate directed at me :D

$1200 used for 4 channels with 3 modes on each channel, 2 masters, very good loop, and excellent reverb is a pretty good deal.

I just can't recommend an amp made from recycled blender parts in a Malaysian junkyard. :D Of course you could always cover it up in a nice Koa headshell, kind like putting a fresh paint job on a crappy Chevy.

do i smell a cork??? that cork smells good.....

OP- JVM is the correct and best answer.

Dave does great work, no doubt, but if you are going to do a Ceriatone, get the Cali Modded one in the classifieds. I think he wants $1400 for it shipped.

Get an old JMP and OD pedal to boost it. If you need a clean channel, I suggest you might take a look at the Splawn QR. Both amps are well within your budget.

I think your initial list was spot on, especially as you need cleans, the Marshall VM won't work then. Marsha would be awesome, especially if the simple clean channel would be added. Peters also cool. I also loved the Renegade when I played it - why not?

Most kickass find would be if you could get a Bogner 100B

I have had a few Marshalls in my day. Including a JVM. The best high-gain tone I have ever had is what I play through now, which is a 1981 2203 with a "homemade" Soldano Hot Mod.

I just recorded with it on the latest Sulaco recording. it's sounds monsterous

the 800 is one of the all time greats... he needs a clean channel though. i love my 2204.

Ooops, i should read better

I am starting to lean towards waiting, saving up some more $$$ and going nuts and getting the Friedman Kitchen sink, add a clean channel, fx loop, sat switch on a ceriatone plexi or a Fortin Cali mod....... hmmmm

Rig-Talk, What say ye??
