I like TGP. There are idiots on all forums.

I do too - and I agree. Sometimes I catch myself being one of them. :D I never take any of this forum stuff seriously though. As already stated: 99% entertainment, 1% useful information.

While I've learned some great info about effects at TGP, and will continue to post there, I always get a sense that the place can't be trusted... I feel like if I discuss some ideas about building a guitar or something there, then someone will come along and plagiarise it. I know that the Internet is public open slather, but as I said TGP in particular always seems a bit shifty-eyed... :scared:

I don't know about that, but TGP does shield the small business owners who peddle their wares on TGP (and other forums to varying degree's) for their primary means of income from negative criticism and/or negative customer experiences.

This creates an anti-consumer protection environment and prevents potential customers from learning both the good and the bad about a particular brand/builder and prevents them from learning all the possible information that could influence their purchase decisions. TGP is like reading a commercial when you're trying to find out information, they filter out anything negative. So "buyer beware" on TGP or any other gear forum, you have to get past the censors/biases/cliques/fanboi gangs to get the real skinny on a product/person.

While this keeps the builders from suing them it totally leaves consumers flying in the wind and at their own peril when researching products or business credibility.

It's best to use PM's there to find out what they would censor out publically.

This is what I dislike even more about TGP. I just want to find out information and discuss music gear, as I do here, yet I get bombarded with open slather marketeers brandishing their wares, or barrages of private messages with purchase offers just because I might mention that I don't often use one of my effects pedals, or to sell their pedal or speaker cab just because I discuss said item in a thread.
I wish they'd all back off a bit. The only builder that has been really genuine & decent is John Suhr ("Husky"), who I had already bought gear from prior to posting at TGP, and would gladly do so in the future if the opportunity arose.

I used to get annoyed about all the hype surrounding a particular product, so if I came across a thread filled with the hype, I'd say my opinion. Then the pedal builder messaged me out of the blue and said "I see that you don't like my products. Is this because I have offended you?" I just wrote back and said I had no personal issue with him at all, and have since kept my mouth shut despite all the hype.
