If you could re-amp one album, what would it be?

Blizzard of Oz...............no brainer that sucker would sound incredible if Randy had better modded marshalls.

Does re-amping also include banning Hammet from using a wah? It should.

Maybe we can get Bruce to take care of that. He always saves the day

Cowboys From Hell

i was gonna say this, but figured if you dont have that tone with that playing.... its not pantera.

When I first heard Cowboys, that compressed tight attack from Dime, is when I knew I had to find a way to emmulate the tone and have been trying every since. Now when I listen tho, compaired to today's high-gain amp technology, it sounds surprisingly thin, hard to believe that was 20 years ago, holy shit where do the years go?

+3 I think we are up to now....

Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian. Actually this whole CD needs to be re-engineered.

Yeah, that one too. Awful.

What else... Lamb of Gods "As the Palaces Burn". Maybe it just needs to be EQ'ed again without what seems like a 400hz hi-pass :)

CFH needs to be left alone. That tone might seem less than desirable now, but think about what you thought when you first heard it...

Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son - Iron Maiden

Great riffs and solos but it would kick more ass if it had the Piece of Mind or Powerslave tone.

Death Magnetic.

Then hire Gene Hoglan as a session player to re-do the drums tracks HIS way.
Erase Kirk's tracks, then get Mustaine and Gary Holt to put some real leads on the songs.
Finally, erase James's vocals and cut'n'paste to death via Protools/autotune using old vocal tracks from the 80s into the new tracks, carefully matching word by word to match current lyrics. Pitch shift the words to match new melodies and....

Presto : KILLER Metallica album

awaken the guardian damn that cd rules but the sound is horrible. too scooped. i still love scooped mids but it sounds way too thin. night on brocken could use some help as well.

no shit. i was sitting here thinking of millions of tunes and when i read your quote, i thought "no shit." there such great songs on that album but the guitar tone could've been better. think anthrax A.I.R. that was 1986. cool tone for the time and it was 2 or more years before no place came out. it just bums me out when i listen to "no place" and some one says "their guitar tone sucks......BAD" because i really love that cd. bad tone and, all it is in the top20 in my end of the world collection. it brings back some cool ass memories!

Only one? 80s Metallica comes to mind, but the album I'd really like to hear with nice thick distortion as opposed to loose fizz is:

Alice in Chains - Dirt

One of my favorite albums ever were it not for the guitar tone.

AMEN!

Or Hetfield saying "ZAH" at the end of every other word.

Actually... If you just cut away Hammets playing and James' vocals, you are left with the drums, bass and rhythm guitar... And that would sound awesome!
Except for St. Anger of course... because that was just the worst album of our generation. I thought it couldn't get any worse, but then along came the Some Kinda Monster (or something like that) documentary...

Exactly how I feel about it, too. I have listened to it a million times since it came out even with the horrible guitar tone. Great songs override bad production and this album has a bunch of them.
