If you could re-amp one album, what would it be?

Cowboys From Hell

i was gonna say this, but figured if you dont have that tone with that playing.... its not pantera.

When I first heard Cowboys, that compressed tight attack from Dime, is when I knew I had to find a way to emmulate the tone and have been trying every since. Now when I listen tho, compaired to today's high-gain amp technology, it sounds surprisingly thin, hard to believe that was 20 years ago, holy shit where do the years go?

i dont know, i had vulgar and far beyond cranking yesterday and those sound anything but thin to me.

I like the "And Justice For All" guitar tone,i don't think it's thin,it's just the bass missing
from the mix, drums are a bit to loud and clicky. And the overall mix is loose, mushy sounding.
Just my opinion.

Dio - Holy Diver

My thoughts:

Blizzard of Oz
80's Metallica - great songs, wimpy tone

Albums in this list I wouldn't touch:

Cowboys from Hell - the sound makes that album
Somewhere in Time - yeah there's a lot of chorus and layers, but it works for that album.

an album that probably needs it the most, is Twisted sister stay hungry album, horrible guitar tone on that album

Metallica Justice for all........
sooooooo THIN sounding!! But great songs!!

+1
Meh, AJFA sounds good when you crank it on a good thick sounding stereo. Low volumes then yeah, thin.

I'd rather have the guitars on MOP re done.

that gets a plus 1, sounds like they stuck the guitar cabs in a giant soda can and then stuck the mic on the outside of the hole.

I already said Testament's Practice what you Preach, but I will add Dokken's "Tooth and Nail" to the list. Same soda can as Twisted Sister.

Accept - Restless and Wild, with their setup from Staying A Life.

Judas Priest - Sin After Sin and maybe Stained Class wth the Hell Bent For Leather album tone.

Sepultura - Chaos A.D Now that's an Anemic scooped tone. Awesome songs.

any 80's band that had amazing raw marshall tone in the early 80's and pissed it away with reverb and chorus and an endorsement from Kitty Hawk amps after 1984. Actually I feel that away about drums too.

No. Honestly. To my ears, Tooth and Nail has a hollow / sterile sound. I think it's a shabby recording. If my opinion is "wrong" and you think I'm high...so be it.

Now, Under Lock and Key - Damn, that is some good tone - jumps right out of the speakers.

no shit. i was sitting here thinking of millions of tunes and when i read your quote, i thought "no shit." there such great songs on that album but the guitar tone could've been better. think anthrax A.I.R. that was 1986. cool tone for the time and it was 2 or more years before no place came out. it just bums me out when i listen to "no place" and some one says "their guitar tone sucks......BAD" because i really love that cd. bad tone and, all it is in the top20 in my end of the world collection. it brings back some cool ass memories!
IMO anthrax had the best tone of the thrash bands with STD

Exactly how I feel about it, too. I have listened to it a million times since it came out even with the horrible guitar tone. Great songs override bad production and this album has a bunch of them.
I think that album had better tone then Doomsday

guitar on AJFA sounds fine to me... but there's no bass.

I wouldnt re-amp albums, just record albums with other amps... so the one I'd redo: the canadian progressive death metal band Martyr - WARP ZONE. Killer tunes, incredible songwriting but the tone... they would have needed VH4 for rythm and Herbie for leads. Their last album should have another tone too... can't stand it.

Other one I'd LOVE to hear with other amps and remixed would be Theory in Practice - Colonizing the sun. Peter Lake's a musical genius, but most of the time you struggle to hear what's going on.

Nile would need to reamp their stuff with something that can keep the low A string tight.

Your opinion isn't wrong, we just don't agree. No big deal, the album is 25 years old, I think I can get over it.

Most of these albums do not and would not sound better re-amp. They just need to be remixed.

That's cool. After thinking about it, Tooth and Nail is a classic in terms of amp tone and pushing the modded marshall (or was it Randalls?). As someone suggested, and I agree the recording just needs re-mixed, new lyrics, better videos, etc

Maybe, but the songs aren't as good. I listen to NPFD waaaaaay more than Doomsday because the songwriting is better, IMO.
