I will add Dokken's "Tooth and Nail" to the list. Same soda can as Twisted Sister.
I think you're high.

No. Honestly. To my ears, Tooth and Nail has a hollow / sterile sound. I think it's a shabby recording. If my opinion is "wrong" and you think I'm high...so be it.

Now, Under Lock and Key - Damn, that is some good tone - jumps right out of the speakers.
Your opinion isn't wrong, we just don't agree. No big deal, the album is 25 years old, I think I can get over it.

That's cool. After thinking about it, Tooth and Nail is a classic in terms of amp tone and pushing the modded marshall (or was it Randalls?). As someone suggested, and I agree the recording just needs re-mixed, new lyrics, better videos, etc
It was Randall amps

Good call on Stranger in a Strange Land, was thin imo and could use the modded marshall re-amp.

Yes it was.

Lamb Of God- As The Palaces Burn

Still my favorite LOG record but damn it sounds like shit

Not that it would make the album / songs/ playing any more interesting, but I'd say VH I.

Another one would be the '87 Whitesnake album....it could use some more effects.

yes please do tell?

I'm almost on board with VH1. In fact several of the early VH records have a weird fuzz on them. I know....brown sound, but some of the recent clone amps might be doing that tone even better than the original.

On another note, I'm listening to Hall of the Mountain King right now, and there are a couple tunes I'd remix. Strange Wings is almost too wet, but other songs like Beyond the Doors of the Dark are just killer.

oh man. I don't know...VH1? I know you were around in 1978. Guitars on one side, bass on the other, pure awesomeness. Although eddie never admitted it, I almost hear the infamous "cracked wah" a'la Schenker.

I can remember in high school on my wall was a page from a magazine. It was from Hit Parader or Circus....the title of the article was "If you Hate VH You are Wrong" guess I've always been wrong.

I really think his tones are / were awful....

I though the tones were alright ..... it was the chipmunk like back up vocals and goofy smiles and cloths. They may be the one of the only band ever where the singer was the coolest person in the band. The first album was OK .... Jamie's Crying .... how "gay" is that. When the next one came out I remember thinking how awful it was. Diver Down was pretty good. Everything after that had one or two good songs at best for me. A lot of his playing just lacks emotion .... all flash, no substance. Every time I saw him live his solos seemed more like finger exercises than expression. Ask just about anyone who was alive then and did not play guitar .....

OUCH!! All the VH1 hate!!

I love the tone on VH1, at the time it was turning the guitar world on it's ass. Yes some of the songs were quirky, but damn the tone and playing were revolutionary.

+1
I get not everyone likes everything but I know if a guitar player says they don't care for the tone and songs on the early VH records, we could never play together. It would be like someone telling me Back in Black is "OK, I guess". Maybe their bench mark tone is Coldplay or the first tones they heard were the modern Brootz and it scarred their genes. I can agree that the VH1 tone is a little fuzzy at times but the tone on the next three is pretty much perfection and even the 1984 tone I love. Now I don't play a super strat and have always played Gibsons, AC/DC is my tone DNA, but early VH is in a true class above most others.

+1. Instantly what I thought of before even opening this thread.
+5 I just mentioned this on a Van Halen thread. I would make it all of RR stuff. His guitar tones sounded like they were from early 70s.
The Scorpions at that same time had some good tones going on.
