It's horrific. I have asthma so I can't even go outside right now.

The AQI was up to 1300s yesterday, which is unbelievably high

Yeah it's really bad still, but better than yesterday - aqi is 231 which is still horrific but not as bad as the couple days before that where I was having asthma attacks indoors

You're covered. I will say that you're missing out on the fun of goosing the front of an amp with a boost.

I will say I am always amazed when I hear somebody so against using a boost and it usually starts off with a comment how a 3000 dollar plus amp shouldn't need a boost ..etc..etc..

I look at it from another angle ... So my amp is almost perfect but I wish I could just get the low end to track a bit tighter or I just want a bit more sustain at lower volume etc.. So a easy solution is adding in most cases a 150 dollar or less boost of some kind .. Hell even the tried and true Boss SD 1 will do wonders for many high gain amps that are almost perfect but need just that little bit extra.

Guys who can't wrap their head around this always amaze me and they ususally say their amp has plenty of gain and at that point I realize they are not using a boost correctly as in many applications it really has nothing to do with needing more gain as its more about the feel and response that a boost will give you.

I don’t think they’re against it as much as they're after simplicity. I wish it was as easy as plug and play…

IME there are very, very few amps that I could get away with no boost

Of course that math varies from person to person and their specific needs, but i can probably count the ones that would work for me on one hand

Larry, maybe a Hellion... those can do it with no boost necessary

a Yngwie sig or Driftwood that has the boost built in, so those would work too

Fender Twin or Roland Jazz Chorus… or look at some of gear like Mike Stern or John Scofield uses. What I don’t see is fusion guys pushing high gain amps. However I do see a lot of mic’d smaller watt amps. The fusion crowd isn’t really large or rowdy so stadium gear isn’t necessary.

a klon style pedal I know you don't want a OD ..... but the Klon gives you more of what you already have ...

and I would put a analog BBD style delay in your loop ... it'll give you some of that what I call Ethereal Squish .... and add some darkness and warmth

your amps are fine .....

just my opinion ........ there's lots of ways to skin a cat .... so they say

I use my Dispatch Master set for delay, but I really want to stay away from OD pedals if possible

Maybe a Bogner Ecstacy 3534 since you like the lower wattage versions. I've never tried one but the lead tone clips I've heard have been excellent.

Mark series and .50 cal + Mesa's do the dark fusion lead sound very well.

I was looking at videos of the Mark series, but I never get along with Boogies?

I had a 3534 for a bit ..... Blue channel will give it to him all day long !!

can't go wrong there either ..... I have a DC-5 that if I kick off the EQ ... the lead channel totally nails the NEO Soul Fusion Tone

When I think fusion, I think of fluid and liquid lead lines. Which instantly makes my thin k Mesa Mark series. Maybe a Mark V 25 if you want to keep it small wattage.

Hey Howie, I played Sgt Thumps Mesa Boogie Mark VII at an ampfest and it was awesome and I don't even like Mesa Mark amps!

I think you might be interested in one for the style you are asking about. I also think you should consider the full 100 watt head as the amp with sound /feel bigger and punch harder even at lower volume levels and by all accounts the the MKVII has a great master volume.

Awesome spanky cleans, killer crunch and that liquid sustain lead that Petrucci is famous for.

Sounds good, my new Soldano 1x12 cabinet gives me the option of a 100w amp
