Is there a gate better/faster than the Zuul+?

Thanks....good to know.

I've always wanted a zuul but the key being so confusing for me and talks of needing a secondary pedal for that function to work just made it much less appealing to me.

I know you can bypass that with the zuul + but then for me whats the point if I already have a good gate.

Yes, on the regular Zuul, you need a splitter of some sort to utilize 4 cable method. That's part of the reason the Zuul+ was released. But I find there's a time and a place for either design. If I want a gate out in front of the amp to kill hum/buzz or feedback from the guitar, a simple Zuul works great for me. Don't need the extra features of the Zuul+.

What is complicated with the key input on a Zuul+? It's no different than any other gate that can utilize 4CM.

Guitar goes into the pedal (key in). Key out goes to amp. Amp fx loop send goes to gate input. Gate output goes to amp fx loop return. You don't need to call it a "key input". Just call it "guitar in" if that makes you feel warm and safe at night.
I never really got confused by either method. But there were a ton of people that were. I don't think Dan was one of them.

But for the rest of the people that may not understand four cable, a better way to say it is the sensing portion (key) should be your first in line from guitar so it isn't sensing any weird shit.

The "loop" of the pedal in should be the last of your pedals going into it if running before the amp, and then the out of the loop would go into the amp.

If you were running the gate portion in your loop, then the sensing portion obviously stays the same, but your zuul would go in the loop before time based effects but after any other pedals like eq or boost

I didn't say it was complicated for me, everyone just complains about it - i wouldnt buy a fortin product in the first place lol

I just think about it as if the "key" portion of the gate (in 4CM) is the gate's trigger. The gate itself is the input/output. So if you want the gate in an amp's loop to kill noise from the amp, but you don't want to kill sustain/sensitivity, and you also want to gate hum from the guitar at the same time, you want the gate to be triggered by the guitar's signal, not the amp's signal.

I actually stopped using zuuls. I have a decimator x g-string. And while it has to be turned up way more to kill same noise as the zuul, it has completely natural sustain and decay.
Your comment makes me GASing Decimator X G-string. I have Revv G8 right now and I prefer this to Zuul+. Zuul+ was dead silent. However, I couldn't get pinch harmonics with Zuul+ even thrashhold 10 to 11 O'clock. It sucked lots of tone. Maybe it was users error.

I tried a lot of gates. And if is by far the most natural that I have tried. Honestly, it isn't even close.

I've never had a problem with the Zuul+ getting any type of harmonics.

Love my Guptech SUN as well. For something with one knob simplicity it works awesome. No issues with decay or tone suck that I can notice, but I don't have to turn it up very far to get the silenceing I need..

🤔

Had a G-String II one time, but @thegame said he needed it back so he could wear it for a date 🤷‍♂️

(I never bought another one, found that its just like a boost pedal, completely unnecessary when everything else is "right") 💥

Here's a short clip of the endless blockade. Some chugs, no picking at all legato, pinch harmonics and some on/off switching. Im open to trying something better but this one works.

I keep the gate at 6/10 so it can definitely clamp faster than this, just dont really need to for what I like.

Are you using it in the loop?

Zuul+ is doing the job, but I wish it closed the gate quicker. I do use the key input before the gate.
I like the Ibanez Pentatone Gate. It's both fast, decays naturally and it's pretty transparent.. Had the usual suspects before.

When the Zuul+ released, I compared it to the OG Zuul, and found the OG to be faster. I was lucky they let me send the Zuul+ back after a few back and forths.

Later I found the Guptech SUN, and I find it at least as good as the OG Zuul, but doesn't need me to have a Roach or something to split the signal. I've been using the SUN for a while, now, and haven't looked back.

Glad to see other SUN users in here. At some point around 2010, I bought a bunch of gates. This was before everyone and their mom owned a pedal company making their own gate. I stuck with the NS2 for years, until the Spectre Cockblocker came out. That one was great until trying to use it in the studio. It introduced some whistling sound that I couldn't get rid of. When the Zuul was released, I bought one and it really is one of the best gates I've tried. But I hated that I had to have a separate unit to split my signal. Then I tried the Zuul+ when it was released...see above comment. Eventually, someone told me about the SUN, and I haven't looked back. I don't even notice it's there until it gets turned off lol. I don't think I will ever look at gates again. It's the best one I've tried for me. And it glows in the dark. I have 3 of them lol.

Anyone have any experience with the TC Sentry? I have one coming today to try. Reviews and demos I have watched seemed positive, but I have not seen it mentioned too many time here.
I had issue with the Sentry. Bought one when it was released. It was advertised to do 4CM, but I couldn't get it to work right. When I contacted TC, they said it's not designed to work that way. I couldn't get it to do what I wanted and ended up returning it.
