Anyone on the forum know a member that goes by ‘Jay36’ or ‘jr9holmes’ ???

I likely got scammed - but to the tune of $125.00, it seems like a whole lotta squeeze for not much juice. If they needed the $125 that bad, I’d have gladly given it to them. I Just dont want to see another member screwed over with the decimal point scooted over a notch...

Had to do with a ‘WTB’ posting of mine in the classified section. Jay36 hits my with a pm saying ‘I think jr9 has what you are looking for - here’s his email’. I reach out to jr9, pleasant communications, close the deal, Venmo the $, 3weeks later, no gear, no tracking #, no communication, and neither individual shows up as a member of RT - even though they originally reached out through RT in response to my WTB posting. Again, seems like a lotta f’n around for a measly $125. I‘d be pretty bent over a thousand-plus head or guitar.

That’s exactly the cut and paste text that the scammers are using on TGP and every on board. Your screwed. They should make a sticky regarding not doing WTB ads and Venmo

Dude, sucks. There’s been weird accounts doing that on this board for years. They usually don’t refer to legitimate posters. If the communications didn’t take place through the board, don’t trust it. RT doesn’t have a system in place but most of us have been here for years and can vouch for each other. Anybody you deal with here will be happy to lost some references you could reach out to, at the very least. There’s not much you can do through Venmo and going off board for the deal. There’s real scum out there, and they’ll settle for peanuts. Glad they didn’t hit you harder.

There’s a lot of us that have been here for years and list our transactions in the Buyer/Seller forum.

If they don’t have good references I don’t deal with them.

Yeah - a buck 25 and I don‘t ever give it a second thought. $1,250 and that’s another story. As long as this is out there and nobody gets bit for the cost of an amp or a guitar, all is good. The fact that these folks actually communicate through the forums (at least temporarily) is pretty creepy!

I feel like that is a bit unfair. When I was selling my ps100, there was a guy that reached out to me on reverb to see about doing the deal without the fees. I told him to pay pal gift me. I gave him my number and talked to him on the phone for awhile, and he looked me up on this board (he was a TGP member). But honestly, I could have stiffed him if I were a piece of shit. It worked out for both of us, cuz we saved money in fees and taxes. I believe he payed like $750 to a stranger.. These things happen.
