I can do it . It’s just an odd set for me . A lot of shinedown and things I never listened to . So I can play it all . But memorizing 40 songs I don’t listen to much is a like going back to school . My aunt like a mother to me psssed suddenly today unexpected . Gay foo fighter song is making me sadder lol . Maybe my aunt tourtimg me one last time . She had serous metal in car . And everyday I’d make to listen to one extreme metal song and she’d
Hate it . But still cool we would do it . Now she’s like ha ha now you got to play gay songs you hate lol
Naw the songs ok . Just not me . But I will have fun

Sorry to hear that Tech. Maybe Nickie "Toe Nails" needs to move out of that state.

I always had cover bands beside any original bands I was in or did the "Slip a few of my own in" thing. I made way more money doing covers. Most original bands, unless you got radio play, don't make shit. Or have to sell tickets. I always had my own cover bands though so at least I (mostly) played music I liked.

Ironically one of my friends ( who I gave bass lessons to waaaaaay back in the 80s ) had a pretty successful original band back in the day called Corrosive. They got in the death metal thing from the beginning. Cookie Monster vocals and all. When I started my last band and was doing pretty well he liked to tease me, saying he was in it for the glory. I told him he hurt my feelings and I was wiping away my tears with all the money I was making in my cover band. The ironic thing is now he's a bass player in a pretty big top 40/Dance type band. I mean like some really gay shit. lol

Man so sorry to hear this. Prayers for you and your family

I played in one for a few years, after saying the same thing. We honestly had a blast.

Never took requests, only played the songs we enjoyed jamming on. Got in on some cool events & venues, that we’d have missed out on otherwise.

Eventually we started writing original tunes, which were often born out of boredom jams at rehearsals. I think doing all the cover tunes helped us zero in on what worked sound-wise and made the writing process flow better.

Sorry for your loss @Techdeth . RIP Auntie.

On the subject of the cover band, this is a great opportunity to make some friends in the band, and also to make some friends at the gigs you play.

After you go through the 40-song cover list, ask them to cover a few songs that you’re into. After all, bands are always a bit of give and take when it comes down to brass tacks.

Finally, that room could use a bit of cleaning up and it’ll look quite nice. Someone has to do it, might as well be you. There are also paid services for that kind of thing, but they run pretty expensive.
