Just keep that in mind and you'll be just fine :D

With that said, I do see a metro kit in your near future!!!
Of course you do! ;)

I want one of those MV JMP's that they're offering now... I'd hot rod the shit out of it! LOL! :D
4 preamp tubes, switches all over the amp! LOL! :D
Knobs on the front back, top and sides! LOL! :D

It's gonna look like a fucking porcupine when I'm done with it!
That's a good idea. Leave the Marshall basically stock and mod the shit out of something less valuable.

very cool Vlad! Id say to keep tinkering until you find exactly what you want  .

That's what I intend to do Ralphie. It's got alot of potential.
AAAAAAAAAAAW yeah!!!

It just needs tweaking... lots and lots of tweaking... LOL! :D

uh oh!! Just make sure that you don't get sucked into the never ending spiral of......It could be better...let me try this lol :D

Dude you have no idea how hard I have to try to keep from changing 1 billion things on that amp... LOL! :D
I just keep say, "you're gonna ruin it.. don't do it! Do simple stuff!"

Yup. That's the plan!

Sounds good to my ears, Vlad.

Did you try it without the diodes?

I did.. I had it wired up to a push pull pot. It didn't have nearly enough gain. The tone itself was very good, but it needs alot more drive. Just not sure how to get that to happen. I don't want to change too many things in that amp.

I spoke to Mike F about it and he told me since I have a PPIV master already in the amp, I could just wire the diodes across the board and use the PPIV master for volume. If I didnt have the PPIV master, then I would need the pot...unless I play my amp at stupid volumes
It is not going to sound the same. Part of the sound of the Jose Master is the placement of the master before the tone stack. I'm not saying you couldn't get something interesting adding diode clipping to a PPIV, it just isn't the same as what the traditional Jose mod will sound like...

Hey...what about adding a simple depth mod to the amp to help with the bass loss you spoke about? Since the bass is tight with the diodes, adding a depth mod may give you the tight bottom end you need.

I saw a circuit for it somewhere, but I'm out of holes on the SL!
Dude I need me Metroamp! LOL! :D

How many outputs does your SL have? Mine has 4 outputs. You could also do a fixed resonance mod.

Mine has 2. I guess if I jumped the channels internally and used the jacks on the front I can add a resonance control.

Ok. So I shielded up the MV and settled on the 20v zeners after trying 11's and 22's. I could probably try 5,15,18 volts, but like every one said, 20 seems to be the sweet spot. Volume is good and the tone is warm. Put the amp back in the head shell and have been playing it for a couple days now. I'm really digging it. It's not 100% perfect because I tweaked other things.

1) I jumpered the inputs internally which gives you some more gain. But I'm not sure I like what it does when I run a pedal in front of it. Maybe I didn't do it right, I dunno. It sounds pretty damn good, so I'm going to leave it for now.

2) I removed the .68uf cap I placed on the V2A a while back. I didn't like it without it, so I put it back. Adding that .68uf cap, gives it more gain and a really good grind. It's very noticeable.

3) I moved the NFB wire from 8 ohm tap to the 16 ohm tap (its 47k resistor which is weird because they switched to 100k in the 70's). I think I like it there for now. Makes the amp more pissed off-sounding.

I was thinking about changing the V1A configuration from 820/330uf to something smaller to maybe tighten up the gain off the V1 a bit, but I'm not sure I want to.
I was thinking of possibly trying the 1 wire mod at some point, but I don't think it will sound good by itself and I don't want to tweak the original components on the amp.

Oh yeah, everything I tweaked was stuff that was already messed with when I got the amp. So I don't feel bad. I'd say about 80% of the amp is original.

tonmazz thanks for helping me out with the diagram! It was great!
