KT66

How would you consider the tone aspect in comparison to a EL34? I am looking at a Marshall vintage modern, and am curious.

My jtm45 has KT66 in it and I am not thrilled, but the iron and components are not top line.

Are the KT66's part of the reason that I am not thrilled?

I only tried KT66’s once and it was in my VH4.
These were the much raved about valve arts version. ( not sure if they’re mode anymore)
They had a lot of chime and were very HiFi sounding.
It didn’t smooth out the preamp much and made the amp like a sound solid state gorilla.
Reminds me of the Tung Sol 7581A.
For me it didn’t work at all.

Maybe for an amp that is muddy , and lacks dynamics / definition tubes like these can be what the doctor ordered.

Just my limited experience with the kt66...
