List Your Unpopular Musical Opinions

This thread is awesome

A few of mine:

Not a big Van Halen fan and never really liked his tone.

I would MUCH rather listen to a good riff than a virtuoso solo.

The main riff in Rebel Rebel is possibly the best riff ever.

Dime's tone was one of my favorites. Heavy as hell and as soon as you hear it, you know who it is.

Meshuggah (sp?) may be very talented, but their songs do nothing for me.

Whammy bars of any type suck balls.

The new Metallica song, Hardwired, is pretty badass ;)

Sweden is the only country that knows how to turn out good rock bands any more.

Randy Rhoads' tone...it sucks.

Charvel!!! That's all.

No matter how great my gear is, I still suck. A lot. But I don't really care, cuz it's fun.

Jerry Cantrell is the epitome of "Less is More". He's a genius.

AIC is still a great band post-Layne.

Metallica sounded their best tonally on Load & Re-Load.

I LOVE Flextones. PODs too! Everything after 2.0 is garbage.

AxeFx are more awesome than than you'll admit. They sound better than a lot of the amps they model.

FRFR sucks, and so does your Atomic CLR. Shut off the sims and play it the way God intended - thru a power amp and REAL guitar cab.

It's funny how many people think the things I hold back from saying!
Also how our ears are all different, we hear the same exact sound but some will love and some will hate.
Jealousy and bitterness can turn someones ears against music they might normally like.
Another classic is people who hear music and like it but then you tell them who it is and they suddenly "hate" it.

Diverse opinions keep the internet flowing, dogmatism and hate is usually routed in sadness or negativity in someones life or past. I don't think someone content with life would decide to go online and beat someone down for their choices just because it doesn't validate their own. If someone loves their Zoom FX pedal then why stop their happiness? Why destroy their enjoyment?
Opinions are opinions

...except the POD, it sucks... that's a universal fact

- flame/figured tops are way over-rated and incredibly cliche'. Many times a solid/metalflake color looks better than gaudy flame/figured on guitars (Les Pauls, SGs etc) because it shows the curves better. Plus, you're not playing a fancy piece of furniture, FFS.

- Rolling Stone mag is staffed by the "musical" equivalent of the ivory-towered collegiate blowhard douchebag.
- Same with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland

That's kinda like when they say how good a clip sounds till they find out it's an Axe-Fx II. :hys:

Did you think this was gonna be an unpopular opinion or that anyone here would disagree?

Winger and Mr. Big were the best two bands to come out of the 80's.

King's X is the most underrated band ever!

Guns n Roses, worst thing to happen to rock.

Nirvana, worst thing to happen to music.

Dann Huff is phenomenal.

Tool's tone is way overrated

Tool itself is way overrated (some excellent songs, but they not the gods as which they are often revered).

Nickelback has some kick-ass songs.
What in the actual fuck are you saying??? LOL this is not acceptable Sir.

LOL it's not unacceptable, it's just unpopular

NO SHT! I can't think of a single person on the face of the earth who reads R.S. or thinks that it's anything more than toilet paper. Same goes with the RRHoF. All a bunch of unwashed commie, hippie douchebags who pray to Kurt Cobain's ghost, wear satchels, sip Starbucks, and write articles on their Apple Macs that NO ONE cares about or agrees with. To hell with them all...

"Unpopular Musical Opinions" - I assume the "Unpopular" part means "with the entire world, not just RigTalk".

Just dropped by to say:

Hagar VH > Roth VH.
C.C. DeVille is a fine guitarist and I love his playing I love him and his tone (Open Up and Flesh & Blood).
Junkyard is the most underrated band ever.

Out. ;)

I need to post more:

How in the hell did Kings X get a record deal??? They sound horrible with weird chords, etc. I've tried many times to like them and just can't. I even owned the Recto he recorded with.

Bon Jovi sucks after their slippery when wet album.

Mick Mars guitar tone sounds like shit. Because of that I've never liked them.

I've got more but I'll refrain due to massive butt hurt I'll create.

I'm waiting for more butthurt.

For the record, I like 3 Kings X songs. I like New Jersey, but then agree. Mick Mars does not have good tone and I owned a "Feelgood" modded amp. More butthurt. Plz.

Shaun Baxter is incredible. GG, HoldsWorth, Lane incredible imo.

Have you heard King's X live in person?

Funny that you say that about Mike Mars's tone. A lot of your Marshall clips sound very similar to his tone on Theatre of Pain, IMHO. Maybe not spot on, but very similar. (Your Marshall clips are some of the best I've heard.)

I agree about BJ, though.

I don't think AIC could have done a better job finding a replacement for Layne - William Duvall rocks!!! Seen AIC 4 time with him and the 5th will be House of Blues in Boston 2 weeks from tonight.

That's all I got :)
