) so I'm not judging, but can one of you go into a little more detail on this opinion? I mean, I understand not liking veneer, but what's so gaudy about a pretty piece of real wood on a wooden instrument? I love figuring because I find it beautiful and relatively rare (the really good pieces that is), not because it's flashy. It's a love of wood thing, not a love of bling thing for many, I think?

Thanks! That makes sense. I see an awesomely figured top and think "beautiful piece of wood", you see it and think "furniture", possibly because you saw figured furniture growing up before you saw figured guitars. Moreover, you love old cars, so metallic paint on a guitar recalls hotrods for you, and for me, without that history with cars, I tend to see paint as something that's covering up the wood I want to see. I also tend to think trans finishes keep guitar builders a little more honest because flaws in the wood can't be as easily hidden.lll":s3sgrbln said:Vede":s3sgrbln said:I know this is a judgement-free zone (![]()

It's just my personal preference. I just don't dig the look of figured or wood grain on a guitar body... clearcoats included.
I think it has to do with this: I expect to see natural grain, figuring etc on furniture. Alternatively, I dig old cars, and many guitar colors (solid/metallic) were actual automotive colors (especially in the early days).
So, when I see grain, figuring, flame, quilt, natural or colored - I expect the item to be furniture or a piece of art you hang on the wall, not a guitar. And visually, it breaks up the solidity of the guitar body and the curves (too busy looking).
Some flames / quilt are extremely over-the-top as well. Waaaaaaay too busy looking.
And cliched because 999 times out of 1000, guitarists get a guitar boner over some super-busy deep flame/quilt guitar that looks like it belongs sealed away in an art museum... or in their grandma's curio cabinet.

There is no amp ever made that is worth 10K and up.
If you do spend over 10k for an amp then you are a fuckin idiot..
Make that 5k.
Madison Square basement with 20k posts in every forum.. turn off the pc and go pickup your guitar.
Your opinions matter much less if you cant play.
A metronome WILL improve your playing.
Slash is overrated.

Love KingsX. Acquired taste for sure, but how many 3 piece bands with 3 part harmonies?NeubyWanKaneuby":3p0l47l3 said:Mr. Willy":3p0l47l3 said:Have you heard King's X live in person?
The singer from Nickelback said you can't say his band sucks if you haven't seen them live.

Many times a solid/metalflake color looks better than gaudy flame/figured on guitars (Les Pauls, SGs etc) because it shows the curves better. I'll tell you what I do fucking hate, though, and that's bullshit mismatched/unmatched tops. Strong figuring on both sides? Great. Plain wood on both sides? Wonderful. But mismatched? Fuck. You.
I'd probably have to kill myself if someone gave me this guitar. Actually, I probably wouldn't even get the chance to kill myself because my head would have already exploded when I opened the case.
