Can't say I agree on any point here, other than the Mark V 25 being versatile.
Most amps can be dialed in to be harsh, or muffled, or sound very good. Depends on the skill of the user, but the 5150 is THE metal amp of the last 25 years for a reason, they sound great in all situations.
Lots of great suggestions in here as well. EVH 5150 III 50, PRS MT15, Archon 50, Peavey XXX/JSX/Ultra, Laney Ironheart, Marshall DSL100H or JCM 2000 DSL are all great choices, all under $1k.
Were it me, I'd go 5150 III 50 watt on the used market for $500 or so.
