I've never cared for Lukes tones but it sounds like something was definitely wrong.

I saw the show in Melbourne on sunday night, and Luke's tone was one of the worst Ive ever heard in my life. It sounded like he was plugged into cheap multi fx unit and straight into the board, there was zero top end sizzle, I was hoping the sound guy just had the mic in the wrong position but when they had the jam at the end, he still had that crappy tone. It was 'lifeless'
I was looking forward to seeing him the most and Satch the least, but Satch had way better tone. Vai sounded like Vai - Luke played great, but afterwards all the guys I spoke to thought Luke's tone was horrible.
The mix in general was quite poor.
+1
Shame.

Someone needs to turn up the presence on Luke's XTC from 11:00 to 3:00... then it will cut much better.

The mud was caused by the mixer I think.  Satch and Vai had the same problems as Luke on the night. No clarity at all. The guitarist playing with Vai, I think his name is Dave Wiener, had a much better tone through the front of house.

I'm pretty sure they had different sound guys. They were using a Digidesign desk and I reckon most of the mixes were preset's. The reason Satch sounded a bit better for me was his cabs were pointing straight at me. But yeah during the jam I walked around the back of the room and it was very wooly, and Luke sounded the same (He was only using one head and cab for the jam - WEIRD tone)

Another pet peeve was hardly any drums in the mix
