I have been playing 28 years. I grew up with rock and metal which i still love to this day. I do have to say I have learned more on guitar in the last 4 years than the past 24 years. I have been studying theory and Jazz. I blame you tube for giving me access to very wonderful, and very inspiring musicians that gave me a desire to learn more. Each day that goes by I learn something new. My improvising has drastically improved and I actually enjoy playing more these days.
I am only a hobbiest, but play with friends when we get a chance. Currently, I am writing some songs. as far as maturing as a person, well I am still 17. :D

Music can be an escape of sorts. When getting clean and sober a number of years back I put away my guitar. A bit later came back to it as a genuinely changed person. Music was still the same, I was different. I played with a friend at an old folks home on Sundays, actually got to experience a person that was out of it, until they heard a certain song and then popped alive and sang. Then back to deep space when it was over. Music has power we don't understand.

When my mother passed away, I bought a guitar in her favorite color and it takes me back when I play our old favorite songs.

Music is the constant that transcends the phases of my life.

Pretty damn cool when you think about it, but that is just my experience.

I hope to mature some day.....
