I just picked up a used Mesa cab and not sure what it is. It says 4x12FB on the back. Does that mean "FatBottom" which I think is the over size cab? Also it seems like the speakers distort more then my other cab which is the traditional cab, Is that how these cabs sound? Is it because of the larger volume alowing the speakers to move more? Thanks for any help!

I think I read that the FB stands for Full Back as in it's not a half back configuration like the RK, but I read that on the internet, so there's that. Couldn't tell ya why one speaker is distorting more than the other unless there are different speakers in the cab? Those recto cabs are either the standard (oversized) or traditional/stiletto (marshall sized/square).

I'd open it up and see what's going on in there, check the wiring while you're at it.

Its not one speaker its the whole cab. Its not a bad sound just sounds like my amp has more distortion. This cab it pretty old too so I guess the speakers are just really broke in. Oh and "fat. Bottom" is VHT not Mesa.

Full back, and you shouldn't hear anymore distortion than a Stiletto cab. The only difference is more highs, less mids, and a sloppy low end from that oversized box.

Does it have a metal grill that you could take off and cook a couple steaks on?
