Metallica just announced new album in November...

I sure wish they find a guitar sound worth a damn. Like the tempo and it not trying to be too rhythmically awkward (Lars overcompensating for not actually being that good). Hey, it's still better than a kick in the balls....

Rhythm Tone is a bit washy. Is KRK using his Fortin on this? I like the Lead Tone tho..

Hmm. I'll be the first I guess, I pretty much hate it. It's the same "new Metallica" with James's new weird vocal style combined with a completely thrash oriented choppy tempo that almost sounds "punkish" to me.

At least the production sounds better, their last album Death Magician sounded like an Iphone recording a garage band.

Heck, hate to say it but I'll take, Load, Reload, and even St Anger over the last few "punk" albums they've done. Metallica has morphed twice now IMHO. The first being after the black album with Load, and now on these last few records they have made. Some people say they sound like the old days now and I'm like......

Meh. Sounded okay, but not very memorable IMO. Didn't stand out as anything special. Still hopeful there will be a couple of gems throughout the rest of the album though.
I agree. I love Metallica, but I'm not really impressed with the new song. I'm sure there will be some great songs on the new album though.

It sounds shitty. The formula is done, time to retire. Sound is soft and not edgy you guys were right on the rythm tone. Production is good though.

Best part of this though, Kirk didn't seem to be using a wah on his lead!! Major victory!

Sounds good to me. Sure it's like what they have done before but there isn't anything wrong with that.

wow
you guys are harsh
thats the best thing they have done since garage days and half of you are hating on it
whatever
sounds like good old metallica to me
what were you expecting at this point?
for them to reinvent thrash metal or define a new genre ?
these guys are pushing 60 for jesus fuck's sake
it only took 30 years
dang

Agreed(except I don't leave out AJFA)! On a sidenote, something about folks who give up on things....they try to convince others to do the same ;)

quite liked it...but the fact they are releasing a double album concerns me. Most double albums have loads of filler songs and given metallicas history over the last 20yrs there is potential for some real crap in there

It's 12 songs over 80 minutes...that's like 100.1% of a regular CD length.

Oh, come on... It's not horrible, but is it really anything special? Let's be honest here. This is the same band that have recorded countless, epic classics that have made people scream "fuck yeah!" with a fist in the air. Is this really one of them? I think not. It's alright I suppose, but let's not go overboard.

I see that now ... Maybe all the news sites should up there game and not call it a "double album" then

I love Metallica and I'm not impressed by this song. I hope for the rest of the album...

Is James singing "We're so fucked" on the refrain? I thought he's more imaginative on his lyrics, sounds kinda childish to me. I miss a memorable guitar riff, the song is more rhythm/tempo-driven. The solo - well it has no wah and the tone is cool - that's the positive, let's leave it like this.

Honestly, I liked the songs on DM better at first listen. I hope my opinion changes after listening to the other new songs.

Love Metallica love this song can't wait for the album and tour it's soo awesome by the way I'm still listening to it lol
I just bought my second pre lawsuit ltd explorer also super excited

Not just hate it...FUCKING HATE IT. Production is way too dry...tones suck. Only good thing ? No wah on the solo. Fuck Metallica.

I like it.
Think it is overall pretty solid.

With that said, I wish someone would go find James' Mark IIC+ and have him us it as his main amp again.

I'm on the fence with this tune right now. Some parts of it I dig, others seem a bit rehashed, but the one thing that stuck out to me is how Trujillo's bass seems to have been 'Newsted'd' in the mix. By that I mean like on 'AJFA' where the bass is literally MIA.

The more I listen the more I like,

I seriously can't believe people are saying they hate it and that its just like the same new Metallica. That couldn't be more inaccurate. Did you even listen to Metallica back in the day? You should go back and listen to Kill 'Em All.

This song fits the same CLASSIC Metallica vibe and has better production. This is awesome and I hope the rest of the album is just as good. Best Metallica in literally decades.

DM was good but it wasn't super thrashy and they needed more gain on the guitars IMO. This is where it's at!

The riffs may not be the most amazing riffs they have ever done. They certainly are not but it is a well written song and they are going back to their true roots. Lars is even on point and using double bass. Also James is right, we ARE fucked and wired to self destruct  I guess using the "F" word is childish but whatever, I use it all the time and I agree with the message.

I'm glad to hear new Metallica, and the track sounds okay, but I'm having a hard time buying that this is the song they picked as the single. First track on the CD, okay; title of the album, I guess; but the song that says "this is the new Metallica," I just don't think so.

Lars should stop helping Kirk on solos.

After three decades of James saying that you don't need to swear on tracks to get your point across (Damage Inc. is the exception), hearing it on this track feels pandering, to me.

That is pretty much my only worry.

They tricked me with St. Anger. I thought Metallica was back when I heard that song, Just like I am thinking with this new song. Then I heard the rest of the album
