Mixed Speaker Orientation Question for 4x12

Loading up a cab with two 75hz speakers and two 55hz speakers. Basically heritage 30's (one 75 and one 55) and the new Blackback reissue (55) and an incoming Scumback BM75. Being that the cab will be in the room with me and pretty much only a few feet away while I'm sitting, any advantage to having the 55hz speakers on top for less abrasiveness. Or perhaps have both G12M speakers on the top and the G12H on the bottom, no matter the resonant frequency? I do get to turn up a decent amount and the cab is really just for recording.
Or ultimately what may lead to the best balance of overall sound. I've done X pattern in the 90's as that sounded the most balanced in the room vs. top and bottom. This was with V30's and Greenbacks.

I would be way more worried about the sensitivity ratings than the resonant frequency, personally, when mixing and matching in a cab like that

I know the reissue bb is 96db and the scumback bm75ld is 97

and the heritages are 100db

I would be way more worried about the perceived tonal differences arising from that, and how it could color my perspective of it in the room

Not a huge fan of mixing. The one that is the loudest or the most spikey is the one you really hear. Micing? That complicates things.
BUT my spidey sense wants the lowend on the bottom pair. My 2 cents..

I have a 'well worn' 68 Marshall straight cab. It was stripped and painted black, so pretty cheap unlike most you might see. Unloaded so I was able to score a pair of 69 lead cone T1221s, and a pair of 68 55hz T1511s. I put the 1221 lead cones on the bottom, and they still dominate the tone lol. I may switch it up to hear the differences.

Yeah, that's an excellent point. I think I'll put the Heritage 30's on the bottom and the Cel BB and Scumback up top.

That's precisely what I would do

It might even out the perceived volume a bit and balance it out a bit more

I just got a Jensen C12Q to go with my Cel Blue in a 2x12 and it's quite obvious what speaker has the higher sensitivity rating. Let's just say the room says, Jensen, what Jensen? We thought you just put another Blue in there. 🤣
But it's all about recording capability for me, not gigging or jamming with others. Luckily I have stereo ins for the 2x12, so if I ever want to do a room mic for the Jensen, I can bypass the Blue.

My OG Randall cab has a horizontal baffle separating the top and bottom. You can do stereo nice with it.
You can still do a custom jack and have one side at a time or all 4 at once.. That way you can select them. A pair in a 412 would still sound big for a recording..

@RedB4Black

I know you have some mixed cabs and they sound phenomenal. I have really only cared for v30s and k100s for a short time and the rest of the time i just pick one speaker for the entire cab

Man I have a folder with this shit from back in the day..

I just love having different speakers and there's only so much room :sneaky: To me, there such a powerful tool for getting a sound, I'll risk the mongoloid cab. I love the idea of a bunch of cabs with matching speakers. Just can't do it with available space.
If I was ever to regularly jam with someone again or God forbid, do a band, I think I would put together a quad, just for that, with at least two matching pairs.

Because the H magnets are going to be louder I'd put the M magnet speakers up top, with the H magnet speakers on bottom, with the similar hz speakers in opposing corners.

is there any vertical coupling with speakers in an open enclosure? I thought maybe I might try having the speaker resonant frequencies match vertically.

Damn cheap ass spade connectors. This one was so tight going on, it snapped. For a second I was freaked it also snapped the one on the speaker but it just bent it. The connection right next it when on easy.
Now I’ll have to order another packet where the shipping costs more than the connectors to replace one.
