I learned a long time ago that I sound the same on virtually everything so I use nice quality stuff and I'm good.

Diminishing returns start at about $1,000 for me. Guitars and amps.

My Jet City Earhart was by far my most expensive purchase - between the $1200-$1800 range (won't disclose exact numbers). 2nd most expensive purchase was $550 for a guitar - after my endorsement discount. I'm not too big on buying really expensive gear until I become a better player lol

$3700 Used 2010 Ian Anderson Standard, almost a yr ago just traded it off last week for some gear. I buy everything general used but have some amps that retail at that. Only piece of gear I ever paid over $3000 for.

I bought a 73 sunburst Les Paul Custom around 8 or 9 years ago for a little less than 5 grand. I ended up selling it after a car wreck to pay for medical bills. I have bought quite a few pieces of gear in the 3 to 4 grand range, but only one over $4500. What about you guys? What was it, how much did it cost?

My '73 les Paul custom is my most expensive piece as well, but I must have hit it when the market was low as it was much less than 5 grand. Sorry about the car accident, that sucks....

Marshall Super100JH. Full stack. Actually I didn't buy it, I worked it off buy painting my friend's house who happens to own the guitar shop around the block. I think it was like 4500$ His cost. I ended up selling the cabs and amps seperately, at that time I had another good amp and 2 other 1960 cabs.
