Solid setup man, congrats... You're going to have to let us know how you like all the new stuff once you're up and going.

The real question will be whether or not I can shut up about it... :hys:

Steve

I know the things I'd do to get a Mac Pro right now... add to that a great set of new converters... I don't blame you if you become evangelical about your recording setup for a while. :D

I'm a manual whore... I've got manuals for stuff I don't own. :) Maybe there's something worng with me... Those of you who met me at NAMM may weigh in. :D

On topic... What you looking into get Randy?

Sup brotha :)
Right now im looking at the Presonus Firebox. I have no idea really, but the idea of being able to easily move a device from my current boat anchor home pc to a new pc in the near future is very attractive at the moment. Plus this firebox seems to be powerful and not terribly expensive which is another plus.

I hear ya, the portability is a big deal for me too... I'm working with my Macbook Pro right now, but definitely want to be able to move into another machine later. Thank God for Firewire/USB2.0.

The Presonus guys seem to be pretty cool, they're local to me here in BR... I like what I've gotten for the price, after the nightmare of mLan/Windows in the past I haven't really had any issues.

Good luck brotha, can't wait for clips.

You're delusional. Why are you wasting your money on this stuff?

Steve

Mostly because I have LOADS of spare cash. Keep in mind though, I'm delusional.

I may not have met you at NAMM, but I have to say, sheepishly, that you're not the only one that own manuals for things that you don't own (or even have no intentions of ever owning) I kinda feel like reading the manual is the only way you can really tell if you can really benefit or will like a piece of equipment without actually having it in your hands to hold and caress before you think about buying it.

Yeah, I said hold AND caress it. :D

I always read manuals to stuff I don't own. It's probably the best way to learn about stuff from the internets. The manual is the one place where the manufacturer is forced to be informative, rather than JUST gush about how awesome their product is.

Amen. No copy writers saying how good this turd sounds better than this other turd. At least reading the manual will give you an idea that it's a turd.

Until you get interested and/or excited about it, your clips will suck watermelon seeds. :D
I can't wait to get my new system going! I've been reading recording hardware info for two straight weeks and I can't get enough... Not that my clips will be any better though...

Steve

What did you get?

Woops.. nevermind you posted it up top... DAMN!!

Definitely understood here brother. I'm an FX/flexibility junkie, so I was definitely scouring FX units in particular until I found the Axe-FX... I haven't been collecting new manuals as of late. I just need to go force myself to setup new patches. :D

Yeahh...I'd love to try the Axe FX, but my pockets aren't deep enough. So for now, like you, I should go back to my G-Major and keep plugging away.

Might go with the 30" Apple Cinema HD Display though...

Steve

I wouldn't waste my money on the Mac Display unless the extra USB and FW ports are necessary. You can get a Dell 30" for $1200 now. I haven't had any issues running it with my MacPro and the quality is just as good.

Yeah, but the Mac display is sooo pretty! Just looks like a studio! I like Mac's though...I'm partial. :D

So am I. But my Dell looks just as nice as an Apple display minus the extra ports.

Did you order the Mac Pro yet? Just wondering because they're going to be updated come Jan. 15th.

I have not, however, the Jan. 15th Mac Pro update is just a rumor at this point that some are debunking for a variety of reasons (unless you have some info that I don't and if so - DO TELL!!!). I'm going to wait just in case though...

Good lookin' out though, man! :)

Cool - I'll check into the Dell... Is it HD?

No, it's a fact that they'll be updated. It's been LONG LONG LOOOONNNGGGG overdue for the update. It's been longer than any other item Apple has. They also recently bought up all the processors. Trust me on this - there WILL be an update. :) If you know someone who has a student ID, you can get 7% to 10% off the computer. Also, their monitors will most likely be updated as well come MWSF.

I agree it is a fact they will be updated. What is the rumor, from everything I can find on the web, is the Jan 15 date. I can wait until the end of Jan or so, but any later than that to be without a studio is rough for me... My wife is a full time student, so I'm already working with the cheaper student prices....

Do you have a reference to anything more than a rumor on the Jan 15 date?

Thanks,

Steve
