My grown adult friend is so upset about TikTok...

Then why aren't they banning Red Note? Or any other Chinese app? Why are they letting American companies sell data to China? Talk about living in lala land. We're in total NPC land here. ...I'm sure you have the inside scoop though that no regulars have access to and only you understand.

I am a programmer and network security expert. Think top 1% of the top 1%.
You are an imbecile with extreme difficulties in understanding even the most basic levels of common sense.
That's pretty much all the information you need to know.

You're one of those morons who refuses to learn how to catch a fish and expects everyone around you to cater and do it for you while you complain and use fantasies about how they're doing it wrong.

Fine, but they're not banning these things and they won't. It would destroy the American economy. Where do you think your iPhone came from?
I wish it came from the US or one of its allies. I'd pay more for it knowing it's not from China. Bring manufacturing back to the West. This is the "cheap labour" tentacle on that old political comic I posted up

You seem angry.

I remember when I was a young lad, the WalMart in town (before Super WalMarts were on every corner) actually made the local news one day when someone had found something in the store that wasn't made in the USA. Now, it seems it'd make the local news if someone found something that WAS made in the USA.

I'm not a tiktok user but I agree with your buddy. In this case it's the rightwing censors pushing for control, just like the left with Twitter.

I don't see how Tiktok is any more culturally damaging than YouTube or Twitter.
Because it is owned by the CCP and they take data collecting to levels that others don’t get remotely close to. It is designed to dumb down and shorten the attention spans of users as well. The Chinese are our enemy, and they shouldn’t be involved in any sort of business or own land here without some extreme oversight. Looks like Trump lifted the ban, so I assume that til too is going to concede 50 % ownership to the us.

Yup, it's always been about the data collection of US citizens (and the rest of the world) by a certain gubment.

I heard a while back that there's at least one US company that's got everything "in-place" in order to be able to offer the app spyware-free. If it's granted permission to buy the rights to do so, that'll take care of that aspect of it at least.

I think it is, for now at least brother.

I put it down to the low-attention-span shorts.

Unfortunately Youtube has caved to the pressure to implement shorts too, but at least that's only a "small" component of what's on offer.

I don’t do social media of any kind, I hate that stupid shit and I’m way to busy to waste any time on it. The world is a much dumber place because of it. If it was all shitcanned tomorrow I’d laugh my ass off ??
Too funny... What do you think Rig-talk is.

I remember signs hanging inside Walmart that said “ We buy American so you can too”. The old man is rolling over in his grave right now.

Fuck Walmart.

Couldn't care less. 'Could care less' would mean that you care and therefore you could care less than your current level of caring.
I don't know. Maybe couldn't care less has been the wrong phrase all along.

Think about this. Even if it was to say they didn't care, that implies they cared just enough to make that comment. Otherwise they wouldn't have commented at all. From that we can infer that there still is some room; however little, for them to care less.
