Hell yeah, Mark IIIs fucking rule.
If I remember correctly, mine was from 1987 as well. I think they put out a different stripe every year from '85 to '89.Congratulations
I bought a red stripe new back in 1987. It's a awesome amp.
Damn. Sounds killer. I've always wanted a IIC+ or a IV. Guess I shouldn't be overlooking the III.Thx everyone for your nice words! Here's another clip - same settings but this time drop tuning

Yes, all mark IVs I've had and played were more polished and lacked that "in your face" tone the 2c+ and III ampls have! What I did like a lot about Mark IVs is how well they record. Supposedly, the Red Stripe is closer to the 2C+ preamp. I am 100% that even if you were to compare 2 same stripe Mark IIIs they would still sound different. Preamp - power tubes - caps - and who knows what else play a considerable roleBlasphemy, I know, but I've played some IIIs that blew some of the IICs I've played out of the water. The IV is great, too, but a more polished sound and more versatile, I think. They're all a little different, but not that different. That said, I've never played a Red Stripe and would love to someday. That's the only one I haven't at least played.
I've actually got to compare my III RS to a IIC+ RI and they are different in the highs and lower mids. The overall sound is not worlds apart like some like to claim to keep the value of their OG IIC+ up but the difference is there and noticeable. I myself prefer the brash and aggessive nature of the III but the IIC+ is so nice and clear. I get the praise and appeal of them now that I've been so curious about for over a decade. Thats even if the RI is as deadnuts or ultra close as owners of both have claimed so take my thoughts for whatever they're worth.Yes, all mark IVs I've had and played were more polished and lacked that "in your face" tone the 2c+ and III ampls have! Ya, the IV'S are not quite as bright in the high end but I find their gain "thicker" sounding. Also, I've got a setting that cops the general feel of the red stripe I had, I gotta bump that 240 slider up a bit and dial in lots of presence. I kinda felt the III a little harsh at high volumes which is basically why I sold it. You know you dial it in bright enough and it's taking off your head, dial it back a bit and it sounds like a blanket is over the cab. There was never a spot that sounded right to me and I fucked around with the presence and 6600 slider forever.Yes, all mark IVs I've had and played were more polished and lacked that "in your face" tone the 2c+ and III ampls have!
