Got it yesterday but it needed some work. Was dead at the jack, but a new jack fixed that. Now I’m at 13.6 ohm resistance. All internal screws including baffle were loose. They all tightened up nicely with no stripped holes. Glued down a few tolex scabs. Replaced all back panel screws.

Waiting until Friday to fire it up!

Update - Just fired it up. I have no words other than phenomenal. Compared to the current UK reissues in the slant…..the blackback cab has a bit more high mid/top end going on. But most impressive is the lack of “fizz” and more clarity. Surprising that all 4 speakers sound identical when isolated. Something that is hard to do with modern day speakers iMO.

Hard to compare slant vs straight but I am stoked. I can’t believe that speakers pushing 50 years old can sound cleaner/more crisp than the modern reissues.

One of my best gear purchases of all time.

One thing I noticed is that the speaker emblem next to “Celestion” is different on one of the speakers. Three are black and one is just outlined. But I see them both ways online???

Can't say I would have passed up the matching head, but nice cab

That looks awesome! Congrats! I couldn't imagine having to wait until Saturday to try it out, but I completely understand. Hope it's even better than you imagine it is!

Nice! Love the old fawn Marshall tolex. Looks to be in good shape too.

Probably one of the water treated models. That's become a thing with speakers the past few years apparently.

Congrats on the Fawn cab, they are indeed rare!:2thumbsup: I had read somewhere that for the years 78/79/80 all cabs made for the US got the Gray and Black check grill cloths, small check for 77, 78 and large checkerboard grill cloths for 79,80 and all the cabs in the UK had already switched to the all black grill cloths that was used for the US JCM800 lines in 1981, so that cab being in the US for the time was rare with that grill cloth.

I'm guessing that cab to be a 1978 or 1979.

Apparently it’s a 1978. The guy I bought it from knows nothing about gear. He buys abandoned storage units. It was in one with a pile of vintage Fender amps.
