I like how he started out claiming to do mods for cheap so "we don't get screwed by high priced mods" and saying "there's no real secrets to all the famous mods". Now he's trying to be the Bugera of the modded amp world. I do want one of those headshells tho.

YEah I thought the same thing when I saw his prices. Nothing cheap about them a bit.

I can't open the site.. anyone else having problems with page loading?

Ok I got there.... 1750$ for a 50 watt head. I suppose for a PTP amp this is probably not that bad an idea though who knows how he specs his transformers and components.. IF a kit runs 1k then for the labour and "secret" sauce, I suppose it isn't that bad if you buy "direct"

That's just it. He doesn't spec his transformers. He wouldn't begin to know how. He uses off-the-shelf stuff and just blindly slaps it together. He's building a "20 watt" amp for a guy on the Marshall Forum using ClassicTone transformers spec'd for Marshall 18 watt clones. How he expects to squeeze 20 watts RMS out of an 18w OT and PT is beyond me. :dunno:

I'm not sure he really cares about hitting 20 watts vs. 18 and the guy he builds for probably doesn't care as long as it sounds good lol. The guy i would guess might have some basic understanding of what he is doing but everything just seems so impulsive and rushed that it makes me doubt how much he actually has grasped from what he has stolen from other builds. So he is saying he got a schematic and bought an amp which he ripped apart.. at that point it is a straight up clone.

As for classic tone transformers, they seems to have a good rep and a great price point. I'd be interested in trying one in my own build one day if ever i decided to do another kit.

i think with Marshall's the 18 watt and 20 use same trannies its just that the 20 watt is Ss rectified which gives it a few more watts then the tube rectified 18. Most guys in this business believe it or not are not engineers, they just have a passion for this stuff and a good ear and a lot of trial and error.

I've used the Classic Tone trannys and they sound really, really good at any price. The fact that they're cheap even mekes them more appealing.

Even if they do use the same transformers, he's just guessing. I'm betting he hasn't drawn composite load lines for the power section. I'm betting he doesn't own an oscilloscope, signal generator or THD meter. Now is all of this crucial? No. Not really. He can still build an amp and make it sound good. But why market it at 20 watts if he hasn't measured it? How long before someone official takes notice that he's building and selling semi-production electronic devices with no oversight to RoHS integrity or rated power consumption?

For the record I'm not bashing ClassicTone transformers. I think they're fantastic transformers and have used them numerous times.

ISO9000 compiant. UL Tested? Will it burn your house down?

You brought up some valid concerns.

This could be the outcome... :checkthisout:
