Most bands that reach their level of success I can at least understand the appeal even if it’s not my thing, with them though I just don’t hear it. I listened to those three albums and there wasn’t a single riff, groove, chorus or really anything that excited me in the least that I felt I need to hear again. It’s funny how what’s epic for one is a snooze for another

Like I do not understand what's good about this, at all, and never have with COC

It's reminds me of the generic 90s metal that would be playing in the background of some scene in a TV show. There's just nothing memorable, interesting, captivating, progressive, melodic, or transgressive to me about it.

It's so weird because normally I can at least pick up on what other people like about something even when I think it sucks, but I am completely at a loss with this band

"In the Arms of God" album is quite good. haven't checked the others albums enough to really say.
"infinte war" i seems to like quite a bit:

yeah not the best riffs or complex songs, so i want to pick up my guitar and play them or something, but surely the best "new" music (to me at least) i have found in the last 2 years.
ask me in 10 years if i care about any of it

I tried listening again but nah. It sounds like a bar band trying to write a riff just like 'Fuel". So derivative and boring, but I guess thats COC's thing but in this case it's not hitting any marks, it's just weak at all levels. At least their Sabbathy sludge riffs were cool enough to carry a song for a while, this riff is just E10.
Well below whats expected of a band with a profile as big as COC. Even the film clip gives off a try hard cringey feel like the Megadave "I Don't Care" video.
Do better.

What are you going on about? What does cherry picking the easiest JP songs to play have to do with IM's chronic chord progression recycling program? I doubt you had tracks such as The Sentinel mastered at age 14. I sure as hell didn't. Because I started playing at 17!

Anyway, you have to realize that sometimes a generic riff/part can still make for a compelling overall musical passage if something else really cool is going on at the same time, such as a great vocal melody, interesting rhythm, etc. There's a billion examples of this but not in this new COC song unfortunately.

It's the 'Fuel' pull-off riff on the A string then onto the E string for the verses. Lame.
A shitty Lars type snare heavy intro. He even does the same lean-back snare roll crap in the clip. I'm sure he's got a toothpick in his mouth too probably.
