so what do you all think?

I've always been alright with Godsmack. Granted, their later material is a bit contrived, their earlier stuff (Timebomb, Vampires, etc) kick ass. I also think one of the main reasons I like them is I think Sully's a bit of alright. He's a fairly chill dude, zip attitude, can play the drums, sing, and guitar all fairly well - and for the most part a pretty interesting guy above and beyond he and his bandmates' musical pursuits. I haven't picked up their latest release yet, but I will... Just because it's like my go-to music. Some bands put stuff out and regardless, I just buy it. I've been trying to find new music that rocks my headspace, but it's been tough. I cannot STAND screamer rock/metal - or that incomprehensible growling bullshit vocal nonsense used in so much of today's newer metal. I find it completely useless. Now, there's a lot of AMAZING music out there, from a musical perspective, that I find rocks - but as soon as this bizarre vocal approach starts in, game over for me.

Call me old school, but I love Tool, AIC, APC, SOAD, and a mess of others... To me, they pound.

That's what I think.

Wow I guess I got old, but I never thought I would hear Tool, Alice in Chains, A Perfect Circle reffered to as "Old School".

I mean they all have had albums out in the past 2-3 years right?

never had a problem with them myself,

songs - not bad, some are really good party music, others - meh..
tone - usually pretty damned good for their style
lyrics - TERRIBLE I mean come on, Whiskey Hangover? that song is unlistenable strictly because of the lyrics.

not a bad band, but they DESPERATELY need to find something new to reinvigorate themselves, just kinda gotten bland over the years.

and FWIW, I'm NOT and 80s guy, unless your talking Exodus, Slayer, old School Metallica, Megadeth.... I'm a Thrash guy through and through

Yeah, that's his Mesa Rectifier tone. IMO that was his best tone by far. Since he switched to Splawn and others his tone is lacking IMO.

I liked Godsmacks first 2 albums ok but since then it's gotten way to repetative and boring. To me their last few singles have been laughable.

I kinda dig those guys...more Clutchish to me. The first Godsmack was pretty good, the second one was too...but I can't stand them now.

Someone at hc said Duderock and that is perfect; Godsmack, Theory of a Douchebag, Hinder, Fuck Cherry, Cavo (?...the coulda been the cocaine, the cocaine...) Rid Cock, et. al.
I hate that kind of shit.

Well the new cd has great tight punchy tone , diggin it. Godsmack 4, didnt like!

Lovin the new cd, kicks ass...

The played Crying Like a Bitch last night on Leno. It was actually pretty good.
No amps on stage. Just cabs. One side had an Engl and a Deizel, the other had a Marshall and an Engl.
I couldn't find it on youtube, unless someone else here can find it.

i'm not really a fan but i saw them a couple of years ago and their guitar tone was one of the best i've ever heard, really impressive
too much wah pedal for me

yeah saw it,,, they had a splawn quickrod, diezel herbert and engl blackmoore in studio from those webisode videos the making of the oracle.

Is that the album that has "Whiskey Hangover" on it? Personally I just laugh everytime I hear that song. Those lyrics to me are some of the worst Godsmack has ever done.

I didn't mind their first few albums. The songs had pretty killer riffs and even though the lyrics weren't great they fit the music decently. Since then it's like they have ran out of ideas and are trying to rehash the things from their older albums but it doesn't work.

That's just my opinion though. Everyone has different tastes and if you like it then that's the only thing that really matters.

Oh, hey, fair enough... But I'm talking since the arrival of such interests as Lamb of God, Mastodon, Meshuggah, and a host of others like them - I consider the older "breed" of music a better "breed". Just my humble opinion...

Peace,

Cool singer in that band.

Wow, these guys are actually pretty cool. MUCH better than Godsmack. Not even close to AIC, but good none the less.

See, this is what Godsmack would sound like if you added a touch of class and took away the trailer park mentality. :D
Godsmack seems to be aimed at weight lifting jock types who get barbed-wire tattooed around their arm. (Sorry if any of you guys have that tat.  )

I dig Dropbox. I've heard some of their stuff on Sirius Radio. Good stuff.

A big +1 there. The guy's voice is far superior to newer metal, though the lyrics are mediocre at best. I kind of feel that way about Korn; love the singer's voice, could do without much of the bullshit lyrics. Their first two albums though....that does it for me.

Wish System would get back together.....
