New Mammoth...

Not every artist has to come from the same place/upbringing to make good music. I get what you're saying but if you're EVH's kid and love making your own music then why wouldn't you use the name to your advantage? He can't help who his dad is.
agree. he has 5150 at his disposal and a legendary dad and mom who opened doors for him so good on him. he of all guitar players deserve to carry on VH tapping and seems like a nice kid.

What's missing is "true grit" IMHO.

I'd have preferred the vocals to not have sounded auto-tuned, but hey, that's just me... and part of why I don't feel any grit.
i don’t mind his voice but i guess it’s just that we expect VH level results. a very tall order.

It's not that in my case at least bro.

It's rock 'n' roll man. His voice sounds absolutely-vanilla and processed for perfection. It lacks character, nuance and dare I say it, grit.

Even if just the pitch wavered a bit it'd retain some semblance of organic character, but there's nothing there; it's pasteurised and homogenised to the point that there's nothing left to grab you or differentiate it from all the other slop that's out there.

IMHO

I like Wolfgang, respect his talent, and if I met him I’d buy him a beer.

But that music is textbook Butt Rock. Safe music made for radio to be played at JC Penny.

exactly. if thats what he wants to do thats cool, but i cant help but listen to his stuff and think "this sounds just heavy enough to not piss off the corporations that are gonna sponsor the summer arena tour or scare off my fathers old ass fans while im gonna try and lure in with a couple taps in a solo” or something lol

Yep. I mean, I’m rooting for the guy and if he makes good stuff in the future I’ll listen to it and tell everybody about it, but the music he’s making now, well let’s just say it isn’t for me.

Hung out with him for a bit backstage in the rec area in Dublin Ireland when he opened for Motley / Def. What a pleasant, humble and soft spoken kid...Seems like a great guy and very talented for sure. That said, his band in just generic and homogenized sounding to my ears...sorry. Lots of other people dig it, good for him.

I like his band and always check out the albums, but yeah it's a bit "Foo Fighters but with metal riffs and solos". Still cool though and his solo on Take a Bow using his dad's original rig is bloody brilliant especially.

I'm sorry, but that chorus sounds like it's an anthem for fat basement dwelling out of work internet trolls, and him singing it at that angle like he's ascending the basement stairs is really not helping.

Lots of idon'tgiveashit is all I have for the rest of the song or any album.

Nah. I like a lot of people that are far less talented than Eddie was. I just don't like the song. I think the nod to Mammoth is cool, as long as it is Mammoth VH or something.

Only thing missing in that song is a dozen FATBOY ice cream sandwiches.

I'm surprised at all the negativity about WVH, really. Especially here, where everyone seems to rally in defense of real amps, real singing, and keeping heavy guitar in an environment of anything but that (i.e. the mainstream). The comparisons to Nickleback are funny. I am not sure when I've seen them playing, you know, the guitar like WVH. I am not saying WVH is the second coming of EVH, god, or whoever, but unless I'm really missing something about him (which is possible) I am not sure why he's not a little more well liked.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I like him just fine. I think he's talented. I just don't like any of his songs that I've heard.

real amps and singing are great, but they dont make a good song. as a few of us have said, we want to like WVH, he has the talent and is capable, but his music just leaves a lot to be desired :dunno:

i really want to dig Mammoth, its cool he plays everything as i try and do, but its just eh. i feel like he is just to formulaic, like i knew the "eddy inspired" tapping solo was coming somewhere. lyrics are a bit cringe
He’s no Ed. Ed wrote good songs…. Oh oh oh Jamie’s Cryin…. Anthemic. Wolfie??? Not so much.

I can understand if someone is hungry and needs to make it financially, writing music like this, but I’m always surprised when it’s done by someone with talent and fuck you money. This is so down the list on what I would want to play and play to, if I didn’t want to shoot myself at the end of the first tour.
Maybe he dug the big venues and that touring life when he was in VH and thought this crap was a shortcut to get back to that?
So horribly forgettable and disposable.
