Your absolutely right  and I think I'm ready to "Pick a side and be happy there is a good band putting out a record that is not electronica shit"

Thanks man, don't know what I'd do with out your wisdom!

You will probably live a happier life, sleep better and not stay a virgin. :D

All I hear is Lars saying

"The thhinnnggggg iiisssss uhhh"

So far I'm really liking all 3 of the new songs and tonally so much better than it has been in ages. Actually kind of excited about this album now, much more than I thought I would be after Death Magnetic and St. Anger.

WTF...James is wearing a fucking Leadville, Colorado t-shirt at 4:57? Wonder if he was actually there, that'd be nuts.

I lived there from 2005-2013 and still own a home there.

The typical response I get from people when I say I'm from Leadville, CO is "Where the Hell is that?"
Just strikes me as extremely odd that he is wearing that shirt. Its a middle of nowhere kinda place. Aspen, CO; I could see him vacationing somewhere like that, its a destination for sure but Leadville, CO.....

Just read an interview in Billboard where James mentioned that he and his family packed up and moved to Colorado for a year. Probably it.

Your probably right there sir. Makes sense now

Here's the part of the interview in Billboard where they talk briefly about it:

November 03, 2016, 9:01am EDT
"He recently agreed to relocate his family to Colorado for a year — he and wife Francesca, who first lived in the state after coming to the United States from Argentina, have three teenagers — on the condition that they drive there. They rented a CruiseAmerica RV and road-tripped through Yosemite, re-creating Hetfield’s childhood vacations. “It seemed like the right time to unplug the kids from this Marin bubble,” he explains, “and plug them into a different bubble.”

I should see if he wants to buy a house in Leadville

Just listened on iPhone headphones: did this physically hurt anyone else's ears? I had to stop because it was aggravating my tinnitus, I guess. Ouch.

Typical "I live in Northern Virginia, drive a BMW, and sit in traffic all day" attitude.

:) Just kidding. Sorry, I used to live in Reston, VA and had to just crack a little joke. :)

It's alright. They just don't sound very Metallic anymore, the guitar tones are too soft. They took the Metallic edge off the guitar years ago though.

How can you love old Metallica but not be more into this stuff? Heck, I'd add Municipal Waste, Hatchet, Gama Bomb, Primal Fear, Striker...soooo many bands still doing it right.

The new Testament is bad ass hope they tour with Metallica

Right now, well for the past several years, Testament has been kicking ass. They make Metallica sound tame in comparison. And should we even mention Skolnick and Hammet in the same breath?

Friggin love this song. This is exactly how old Metallica should sound. Amazing James on the vocals.

Shame on Kirk Hammett though, he is slowing down the rest of the band with his tone and playing.

It's true, but still sounds awesome. The guitar tones are more softer and sound more like Megadeth type.

Which is kinda funny: Metallica getting super older and soft sounds just like Megadeth :D

IMO it's still completely recognizable as Metallica from the first beat though tonally. There preferences have just changed some tonally. James seems to enjoy more mids and less distortion than the totally scooped super distorted early years tone. I personally love their diversity. Never cared for bands that try to recreate the same things over and over.

Let's not forget how slick all the new gear is now a days. I wonder if they recorded MOP today how it would sound? Things evolve and change, nothing stays the same. I am just happy and thankful they are alive and making another record. You can't say that about Motorhead. (sadly)

I have a new appreciation for Kirk's solos on the new songs after reading an article today. Unlike past albums, he went into the studio with no preconceived/planned solos and went with his gut on a lot of stuff. I like when people improvise and go off the cuff sometimes. Makes a bit more sense to me now.

He must have had some bad taco's because his gut is for shit.... :D
Sounds like he's been doing that for 25 years. I think it's just code for he can't be bothered preparing anything as the music isn't inspiring enough, to prepare anything, and I'm gonna ride this money train on auto pilot and focus on my surfing...I can imagine sometime in the 90's he realized that they were still selling out every night and he had gotten away with it. Breathed a sigh of relief and here we are now...

Funny... I already forgot the solo before Kirk played it.

Not a bad tune though. It is solid.

Not a bad song. It's definitely listenable.

By the way does anyone know what monitors these are:

:D Yeah, very true.

Although, in a way he was kind of boxed into this situation over the years. It was always James and Lars building the songs and then inviting the others in near the end. It has always worked better that way but yes, the solos have probably suffered for it.

I just listened to Atlas..like it lots.
Dare I say that they've recaptured the black album ?

I love the Maidenesque vibe around 4:38.

Like it lots, much better than anything they've done since the black album.

Good for them, glad to see them marching forward still into legendary status

Not a fan...
I liked They're sound up until And justice for all.
They lost they're edge around the black album.

It's funny when you watch them live around 89' and now.
Totally different attitude.

27 years will do that. I'm sure all of us that were around in '89 are much different now. Still pretty impressive the over 2 hour live shows they put on now. Still one of the best live bands around IMO.

Personally I think this is going to be a really good album. I don't even try to compare to their early years. If I want that I can still listen to those albums.

Wonder if there will be a instrumental or ballad on this album?
