I gig with a Diezel VH4 and the last couple of shows, my 3rd channel has starting sounding very flubby. Aside from that, when turning my amp on off standby, it doesn't come on first try, I have to flip the standby switch on and off once again to make it work.

Does this sound like it's time for a retube or should I be looking at something else?

(The amp has seen approx 150 shows over the past 3 years)

The part about the switch doesn't sound tube related

Prob needs a new standby switch. Any decent tech can take care of that.

This, in regards to it not coming on the first time when you flip the standby switch.

As for the "flubby" sound - two things, 1) how many playing hours do you have on your power tubes (a typical power tube replacement is 1000 hours or one year)? 2) The tone of your amp is largely emitted from your preamp tubes, so question is, how old are your preamp tubes (preamp tubes can last for decades)? For the standby switch issue not immediately responding has nothing to do with your tube layout. Also, you didn't mention what your speaker configuration is that the VH4 is powering. So I would suggest that you play your rig at moderate to high volume, listen carefully to each individual speaker to rule out any predictive speaker failure that may be causing the "flubby" sound.

With a prized amp like a Diezel VH4, if in doubt (if you don't already have one) find a good amplifier tech to give the VH4 a physical.

Good luck. :)
