Battle damage on Charvels adds character and tone. No other guitar sounds better the more you abuse it. They are like race cars that need to be blown out to work properly and not driven safely.

I want an custom San Dimas so bad right now.

That chip can be fixed pretty easily with some crazy glue. Crazy glue can even be used to fill in any voids in the paint/top coat. I bought some micro polishing cloths from Stew-Mac and with a little time you can drop fill it with crazy glue and polish it up to look perfectly.

Sounds like the Guitar Center tech pulled the neck out and away instead of straight up and that could explain why he's working at a Guitar Center.

Bingo...

The pocket on my Charvels is so snug I have to gently pry the neck straight up. If I even tried to pull the neck any other way, the paint would chip.
