Gibson did a run from 1988 to 1998 of guitars in Japan under the name of Orville, the the actual Les Paul on the headstock. Neck is .86 to .99 and long tenon.
Lots of figure there, for sure, but I have to wonder if it´s a foto flame. They did some of those, not at all uncommon at the time, but it could just as well be a pretty veneer too.

Sweet axe. You made it almost a whole month without buying a guitar! Seeing as how you live in Japan that is truly remarkable. What I wouldn't give to go browse them guitar shops in Tokyo just once with a pocket full of dough.
