I love the old school analog look, the meter, all the controls at one end like an old radio or military electronic device, awesome.

Can't wait for clips.

Both the steampunk lover and Extreme fan in me are screaming at me to buy that amp.

If it sounds as good as it should, I will be hard pressed to avoid owning it.

add a bb preamp and a nice analog delay and you are styling!

I guess Bruce Egnater did all of the tweaking

Where did you see this?

quote from Bruce, posted on Hugeracks inc.:

Quote:
A friend of Nuno's in Australia made the original prototype circuits. The look is all Nuno's. He brought it to Randall and they called me to work with him on it. Man can that guy hear things. He is quite the perfectionist. Lots of tweaking and changes. It took quite a while to perfect it to where Nuno was happy but it's here now and he loves it and plays it!! ......and he does not need the OD pedals to get his tone. He uses the OD pedals for an alternate sound but his core tone is 100% his amp.

Quoted from Egnater website:

Bruce Egnater has been designing, modifying and manufacturing guitar amplifiers for over 30 years. He’s worked with legendary artist such as Peter Frampton, Nuno Bettencourt, “Dimebag” Darrell and countless others.

Now I gotta find out what Bruce did for Dime.

I know, but I'm not sure it's public info. :aww:

I like the style. I don't suppose Nuno did a demo of the amp at NAMM?

I played one, and all I can say is that the Nuno Randall amp is BAD-ASS!

Not that it was easy. At first, Randall refused to let anyone play the amp. I got 4 different answers from 4 different suits, that told me different prices and release dates, and excuses to why we can't play it.

Finally, i walked by, and there was a cord plugged in, so me and matt went for it, and fired it up.

Seriously, one of the best sounding amps that i played at NAMM. Overall, great amp, some quirks, but great tone. You can definitely tell that Bruce tweaked it, because it undoubtedly has an egnater flavor to it.

CLEAN CHANNEL: It's not clean-clean at all. Quite the contrary. it's actually very crunchy. Think the opening of the song "Spaceman" off of the first Nuno Population 1 album. N4 toggle in the middle, and it's that jangly, breakup kinda sound. It *does* clean up very nicely when you roll your volume back to about 8. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I like it.

DRIVE CHANNEL: Tons of gain on tap. Very hot and crunchy sounding. Saturated, but still has great note definition. Can something be smooth and crunchy at the same time? If so, then this amp has it. The Solo boost section sounds the same, but slightly more compression. totally rock and roll, not metal.

VU METER: Badass

OVERALL: It's a rock amp, not a metal amp. Rich midrange that you do no want to scoop out. A funky, dirty clean channel. A unique look.

And a downright, g*ddamn SHAME that
A. Randall wasn't promoting the amp more at the show.
B. The Randall suits were very, very douchebaggy at the show, being cryptic and downright rude, about those who inquired about the Nuno amp.
C. Bruce can't take credit for his glorious handiwork.

It's not on there website. who knows when it will the stores

ewwwwwww...those knobs are gay. looks like a vintage piece of Naval Electronic test equip or an Osciliscope.

ralphie's clip sounded prett beefy though.

I'm really looking forward to trying it out when I get a chance. I think it looks killer!

Looks totally cool. Will have a nice price tag attached to it I'm sure. Any "signature model" does so...

A bit of info re the NB KING 100,your analysis of the amp sound wise is pretty spot on.
When the proto type was put together it was done over about 2 years of consultation in Australia
Nuno had very specific tone requirements. As somone mentioned,Nuno has a very compressive style of playing and as such the bottom end frequency range would break up to early on most amps he played.
This amp has some "different" characteristics than many amps out their at the moment.
The design is sort of a fusion of a Fender type sound compression wise meets a JCM 800 type sound.
As the pre amp section has fairly agressive gain stages, the proto used a 12AT valve for the phase splitter to "soften" to signal hitting the output tubes thus really making the amp sing.
It uses EL34 outputs really for their clarity and great frequency response.
The proto types circuit was tuned specifically to the Bill Lawrence pickups L500 in Nuno's guitars but the amp sounded great with a wide range of pickups. Another great feature on the proto was a not so obvious (4th) great blues rock channel hidding in the clean channel by overdriving the clean volume against the master.
Not sure if this function is still in the production models.
The original proto was laid out in a "normal" type amp layout and I believe Randall with Bruce, did some reconfiguring of the pre amp boards to fit Nuno's unique visual requirements resulting in the brilliant looking amp it is.
I would have to say it is probably the best sounding and most unique looking amp Ive seen.

Interesting post. I also thought it was one of the best sounding and looking amps at NAMM. Great, great amp.

He used it during this last tour with kings x and living color
his tone was amazing live when I saw him, absolutely killer
