I believe Nuno took the only two production proto types on the road for the recent Extreme world tour ( all concerned freaked out because they were the only two in existance!!)
He was adament he wanted to run the amps as hard as he could in a gigging enviroment to iron out any issues early -which he did.
I hear he wants to have every production amp out of the box as a gig reliable amp and producing (his) tone.
I guess,as we all know, the quality of tubes has dropped big time over the last 18 months world wide so the only real variable will be the tubes but according to Doug REYNOLDS (Randalls boss) Randall are going to great lengths to grade all their tubes. I do know this to be true because their discarding a fair perentage of the tubes and only using the decent quality ones.
Lately Ive seen new AC30s with dud rectifier tubes ,near new Messa's with dud rectifiers , etc etc.
As for the tone on the NB King 100, its definately got its own (NUNO'S) sound, and a killer on all channels.
It does what its supposed to do,straight forward to use without to much fuss but will balls.
The pre amp produces a kind of Fender meets Marshall JCM800 sound but with way more gain and a big tight bottom end.
As Nuno stated ,he always reckoned he was not going to do a signature amp unless it was just as he wanted.
He had spoken to a number of designers over time without really finding what he wanted and when he did,he spent a LONG time working on this project to get it right.
