What Are Klon Style Boosts Good For?

Just curious...I've never tried one and a friend is bringing by a Klon reproduction pedal made by JHS to try with my Mrashalls. Rock? Metal? Clean boost? Use the gain / distortion? or just an output boost? Any thoughts would be appreciated

Klon is one of the most versatile boosts ever

People use it for clean/edge of breakup (mick from TPS has a million great videos on it)
People use it for punk and classic rock tones (Mike Ness famously uses one with his fender bassmans)
People use it for metal as a boost and its killer

I was running it into my old bassman the other day, I have been playing humbuckers again and it just sounds so harmonic and sustaining

it'll give you more of what you already have .... the more you crack the gain the more harmonics you'll bring in due to the germanium diodes ...

but it's a double edge sword ..... if you're running hi gain ... you'll most likely want to keep the gain low on the pedal ...

keep in mind .... the Klon splits the signal at entry .... overdrives only one of them and then mixes them together at the end of the circuit ... ( unless you have a Chiron Deluxe or a Chiron 3.0 ) .... this function is on a dual pot ( Gain ) how it works is .... as you turn the gain up ..... the clean signal goes down .... and vice a versa ...... if you turn the gain down the clean signal goes up

let me know when you're ready for the real deal ...

I had never used any type of Klon prior to a few weeks ago. Got a recommend to use one with my Wizard, so I bought a Chiron 3.0 from Griff. Holy cripes do I wish I had tried one a long time ago.

Fantastic boost for high gain amps. And it is great for double boosting as the second boost in the chain.

Im a certified boost junkie for high gain amps and have owned and still own a lot of the basics and boutique stuff. I almost always end up back to an SD1 or Maxon OD808. I can’t see the Chiron ever leaving my board….its just that good!
