What Are Klon Style Boosts Good For?

I have a few...

Rockett Icon Archer - is probably my favorite pedal for leads with a vintage amp.
I had a Silver one before the Icon and liked it for rhythm playing.

VFE Merman - yet to find anything I use it with. I need to give it a other try.

I have a Maxon OD-820, and it was supposed to be Maxon’s answer to the Klon

It actually does the clean boost pretty well.

I got it a year or 2 after I got rid of my Silver Horsie Klon.

I actually prefer the clean boost and the OD tones to the Klon I owned.

I hear that Waynzo makes an OD-820 pedal, so that might be another Klone flavor that would be a great clean boost/OD
I do make an 820 ... an 880 .... a SD-9 ..... got a real cool version of the Boss OD-1 coming soon ...

but yes ... the 820 is Klon-ish .... very decent OverDrive ...

it'll give you more of what you already have .... the more you crack the gain the more harmonics you'll bring in due to the germanium diodes ...

but it's a double edge sword ..... if you're running hi gain ... you'll most likely want to keep the gain low on the pedal ...

keep in mind .... the Klon splits the signal at entry .... overdrives only one of them and then mixes them together at the end of the circuit ... ( unless you have a Chiron Deluxe or a Chiron 3.0 ) .... this function is on a dual pot ( Gain ) how it works is .... as you turn the gain up ..... the clean signal goes down .... and vice a versa ...... if you turn the gain down the clean signal goes up

let me know when you're ready for the real deal ...

Is it similar to the VFE Merman? The Merman is my fav boost ever.

I need to give my RYRA Klon another try. I was trying to use it as a typical bosts ala TS9/SD1 and I felt the SD-1W did that thing better.

Agree with everyone here, klon type pedals are great for boosting. I have 3 or 4 and variety from TS types. A Klon type pedal with my old JVM was 3D sounding.
