This one is mine, I bought it a couple of months ago. My first 7 string, which is now my main go to axe! Its carved out of a solid piece of mahogany, no joints or anything just one piece. Fretwork and craftsmanship is unreal, I was so impressed that I have a special build 7 string multiscale on order right now, and am thinking about a third.

Rob from KxK is awesome, replied quick to my emails and is very serious about his craft. Can't say enough about his guitars!

Now's the time to do it, there's another 7 Scale sale run going on until the 30th

http://www.kxkguitars.com/Sii7_7scale.html

Sooner or later I'll end up adding one of those to the collection

***This a drama-free post***

So I recently changed pups in my BRJ from a Warpig set to a Painkiller/Cold Sweat combo. At first I thought I had made a huge mistake and wanted to get the Warpigs back. Then I thought I just needed to get used to the new pups and not have such a fast reaction. Anyway, after playing with them for the last week and a half I dig them a lot. It really came down to adjusting the height on the pups. Once I got it right, they came to life. Now the low B is super tight (on the PK) and crushing while the plain strings have nice snap and articulation to them. The Cold Sweat is much more liquid and each note has those pleasing overtones that a good neck pickup has.

Yeah it amazes me how sensitive BKPs are to slight height changes sometimes. The Nailbomb in the bridge of my guitar went from a muddy mess to sounding fantastic with a VERY minor lowering in height.

Well, I went and did it...or actually, am in the process of doing it....Tom Anderson Drop Top 7 being ordered as I type.

I've owned a few 7's and never really was able to play them as well as a 6 for some reason.
The only one I have pics of was a mod project I spent quite some time on and it was AWESOME. I regret selling it but in all honesty it wouldn't have gotten much use If I'd held on to it. Nowdays i just tune my 6's stupidly low & that works for me, It would be cool to have the extra range but I've gotten by fine without it.

Guitar: was an ibanez 7420

pickups:
bareknuckle painkiller bridge
bareknuckle cold sweat neck

other mods:
original floyd rose 7 tremolo
petrucci-style wiring (3 way with outer coils in mid position) with CTS pots & switchcraft jack.
Knobs that go to 11!!! and matching switch tip
swirl by my good friend/luthier/painter/wizard Ernie Taylor at ET guitars

That might be the only swirl I have ever liked. Very cool.

Was just in Sydney (all over Australia actually) and really liked it. Great town.

Thanks dude!
I love it here, I've travelled quite a bit and wouldn't live anywhere else

how are the KxK guitars? I see they offer now an extendend scale 7 string for $1999 which is insanely cheap!?

Like I said, i'm so pleased with my KxK that I've ordered another custom 7 extended scale and might order a third. They're all built by Rob and Rob only, 100% handbuilt, the necks and fretwork are top notch, his heel just recedes into the body. I wish I had more photos so I could show you these guitars, there's quite a few on the net. He also has a keen eye for highly figured wood.

I'm by no means a fanboi, but just an extremely happy customer. I have had many, many guitars, minus a Blackmachine or Daemoness, and this is one of my favorites, by far.

Talk to Rob and get in on that deal, 1999.00 for a fanned 7 string is a great deal for a USA made custom.

Or PM Technomancer, he helped me a lot with my KxK order and knows Rob very well. Really cool guy who's willing to help you out with questions or orders.

Everyone has some killer shit! Very cool.

What's everyone's pickup of choice for the 7?

Wolfetone rewinds of the Duncan JB and Jazz. The man is a magician. It's a pity he's so, well, disorganized.

Well, the other guitarist in Division is an endorser. The first one he got (a HUGE white V) was good. The 2nd and 3rd ones have been spectacular. Rob does good enough work that I seriously considered dropping my Jackson endorsement.

Wow that was one sweet GMC swirl.

I love my KxKs to death. I have 3 of them, two sevens and a six and have three more on order in various styles and wood combinations. I got the first one in 2006 when they introduced the Sii-7 model in a discounted run on sevenstring.org, and have been a customer and fan ever since.

Sounds fantastic, looking forward to seeing it. Also, it seems like Anderson is claiming these are limited runs only but are accepting orders for them anytime. This "limited window" started about a year ago

Hopefully they're still taking orders when I'm ready to buy one...

It looks like they are going to introduce the 7 string line as a TAG model officially this year at some point. So, it appears that the the limited run thing is a thing of the past.

Nice. You'll have to let me know how you like the swamp ash with the 7 string. Your specs are pretty close to what I would order.

I'm jealous! :)

Thanks, man! I have an ESP/LTD that is swamp ash and it sounds really good. Talking to Roy today he seemed to think it would be really good, to.

I thought the LTD of yours was ash of some sort. I'm torn between swamp ash or mahogany (like a hollow t kinda thing). What made you go with a maple top? Looks or tone choice?

My first good guitar was a Gibson V that was ash with a maple top...it was awesome sounding but really heavy. Thats good news they are going to make them reg production.
