Just make sure these go straight to the bin since they could come back and haunt you later when you forgot all about it, it happens.![]()

I tested one last time before packing up the amp to send back and posted a video. The hommie Dave said I have a bad pre amp tube.
I literally just replaced them all with brand new tubes after noticing an issue to rule that out as an issue. I figured whatever, I have to put the Mesa tubes back in anyway so sure let’s check it out.
Literally the first tube I swapped was the bad one. So stoked right now. Full gain, full volume. Noob of the year.

That’s all I got. The Amp kills
Dude I’m glad you got this sorted! Now how bad is the crunch?maddnotez":1yia3swz said:Tube tester now on the future list.
The amp is really awesome. The cleans are great. Probably the best cleans I’ve played on a high gain amp next to the Rockerverb. It can get super brutal and it can do Metallica all day. I’m now convinced Mesa did most of the writing for Metallica.
The crunch is ok. I guess that would be the weak spot. It is not horrible but it is no plexi that is for sure.
So glad I got it figured out. I knew I was missing some gain and it is not going anywhere. At least for a long time. Will try to record with the cab Clone soon.

Idk Jer, I need more time with the dials. I’m not much of an 80’s or crunch player. I guess I got a better VH than AC/DC but this amp just isn’t voiced for that I don’t think. Ch 2 and 3 are very close to each other. I think JP said they’re the same. I’m probably not the best person to dial in a crunch tone. I’m a metal player but compared to a Bray or an old Marshall or something the JP does fall pretty short.
It’s probably useable and I guess if it was in the hands of that type of player they could get a decent, useable tone but if someone was looking for a balls to the wall plexi I wouldn’t recommend the JP.
With all of the options I’m sure there are way more tones then I have gotten so far. I’d put more stock into someone other than me trying to dial in a crunch tone. Plus the amazing clean channel with the right pedal could probably do wonders.

Your issues are the reason why I went out and bought maxi matcher tube testers. I test every tube before it goes into any amp of mine. Plus, I know exactly what I’m using. I trust no tube venders.

I've always felt that Mesa amps in general don't do a great crunch. To me Mark's, especially at that gain level, are better for soloing than for rhythm playing. That's one area where the Mark V's are an improvement on the others, but I was able to get some decent crunch sounds out of my Mark IV, just had to use some strange settings to get it. IIRC I gunned the clean channel volume one day and that came out with a nice crunch tone, but I'm not sure you can do that on the JP because of how he wanted the clean channel.
