Peavey Windsors

While we're at it, given the damn-near "give away" prices of the Windsor, and the fact that it is a rather simple tube amp, why aren't more people modding the living shit out of these things? Do so many things need to change that it's not cost-effective? I'm not sure what all is involved, but a donor Marshall is four or five times more expensive than a Windsor before the cost of modifications. Seems like you caould make a Windsor scream for less than $900 all in.

Is it the stigma of the nameplate on the front?

Chinese amps especially PV's are garbage.
Kind of painting the entire line with the same brush, aren't you?

Generalizations are generally worthless. Just sayin' ;)
So then it fits right in with the rest of his posts...worthless

Basically, Windsors sound like a jet plane with asthma.
IMHO Peavey has never really understood how to make a good sounding guitar amp, or speaker.
However, the parts and schematic support is excellent and they are nice people. That's a big plus!

MODDING a Windsor:
Most mods posted on the internet for this amp are a joke. Don't follow them, you will be sorry you did.

To really mod one properly, it's quite a bit of commitment and work. You need test equipment, and experience for sure.
BIG Major changes must take place, before it sounds like anything decent.
And you certainly do not want these done by a HACK. BEWARE.

It has potential for sure, if you find the right experienced person to do the deed...

For 9 bills you can buy a JCM 800 and a TS that's likely going to sound better. Hell for that matter you can buy any version of the 5150 except the 5153 100 watt. The Budda stuuf goes for 7 to 900 all the time. There's a lot of options out there for that kind of money.

Damnit, pushed the enter button again. Didn't mean to do that.

Look for a VTM 60 or VTM 120. Better amp, made in America, the cabs come with celection 85s stock. There's a half stack at a local music store right now for 500 bucks. The VTM is supposedly modeled after Brian Jay of Keel's Jose Marshall, except with 6L6 output tubes.
