Played my Morpheus tonight...

Welcome to the forum. Yeah, you made it sound pretty good up until you were lower than a whole step. But IMO if it sounds realistic and has no latency for half-step or full step down, then it's worth it.

Thanks brother - glad to be here! Appreciate the response as well - and I agree - who is going to play an octave low? (Not counting the octaver effect which IS a usable effect) I mean seriously though? If the pedal was JUST a half step drop tuner only and that's it, I'd buy it for that alone (not for $200 though) as that's all I'll ever really use it for and rarely at that. I would never have it as a permanent "fixture" in my pedal board and think of it more as a "utility" pedal - like a capo where you hate to use it, but dammit sometimes it just makes life easier you know? I mean playing in E flat or B flat!? ugh.. BUT now I can deal with it and more importantly I can jam to Van Halen all day and butcher ALL his licks without detuning and watching my bridge get higher... and higher... and higher... :)

I've been using it for a few months now. I have it plugged into a loop on my G- System. I only use it for a 1/2 step down. Any more than that and it is unusable for a gig. But for a 1/2 step down it works great in my setup. No tone coloration or latency or warbling issues. I just spent a small fortune on my rig in the last year and wouldn't let some pedal muck up my tone. I've probably done 15- 20 gigs with it with no problems. The sound guys have never noticed any change in tone or other issues when I use it. But like I said I only use it for a 1/2 step down.

I'm so glad you responded because I was wondering how it worked in the loop of the G-System... I assume you did the firmware upgrade (DropTune that is - although have you done the G-System one too with the UniVibe? Good stuff!) Sounds like those who bought the first incarnation of the DropTune were less than thrilled with it so I was ready in my mind that I would hate it and need to take it back but luckily... Anyway - I use it in my smaller Nova System pedalboard in the Eleven Rack effects loop rig live and it's fine as you can hear so I am glad to hear it works well in the G-System too so I can put it in a loop and not in front of the G-System... Do you find you have to use the boost on the G-System to compensate on the patches you engage the DropTune because of the level drop (albeit slight)? or in tandem with a clean boost or anything? The G-System is ideal to handle that scenario for sure so I'm excited to give that a shot but I have to say this Eleven Rack thing has me spoiled from a gear hauling standpoint... Have you ever picked up a Road King head? Ok, well my pedalboard is even HEAVIER with the G-System in it... LOL! Haven't used it since I got my Nova but I want to use the UniVibe so bad in the G-System :( what a bad ass unit... I assume you use an amp and cab mic'd up live? When I used the DropTune with my small amp rig I noticed more of a processed signal sound with it engaged and it's not present at all in the Eleven Rack rig and not sure why that is really?

I just did the firmware update to the Morpheus. I was not aware that one was out until reading this thread. I'm looking forward to setting up and playing with it. I checked for one a couple of months ago but there wasn't one available. A firmware update could only make the unit that much better. I do have the firmware update for my G-System. I was part of the beta testing. I love the new Univibe as well. I just listened to your demo of the Morpheus with your Eleven Rack and think it sounds great. I bought my Morpheus back in October as soon it was released. I knew going in that I just wanted to use it for a 1/2 step drop. I didn't have high expectations and figured it would just collect dust. But I was wrong. It works great with my setup. I was bummed to hear that some users were not happy with it. But I only use mine for a 1/2 step down. Everone I've let hear mine live has gone out and bought one and now use it in their live rigs. I've basically sold 3 units for Morpheus myself. Where's my commision? LOL! I never tried it in front of the G-System. It works great in my G-System loop and I like the ability to control it that way. I set up a bank of presets on the G where it is always on in the loop so I have a clean, rhythm and a couple of lead presets. I have never noticed any level drop with it.
I do use an amp and cab mic'd for live gigs. Before { got the G I was using a G-Major, GCX Loop switcher and Ground Contro Pro. I ditched my rack when I got the G and have everything in a heavy duty flight case on the floor. Damn thing weighs 90lbs with the lid on. But I'd rather carry one big pedalboard than a rack case and a pedalboard.

I hear that! Hell the G-System alone is 20lbs, the case is probably 40lbs or more empty - nice gear BTW! pedals galore! wow - I can't fit any more on mine LOL - it's like its the same surface area size wise but yours is more square which I wish mine was... Here's how mine is laid out - I had to recess the G-System cause the lid wouldn't shut with the "insert" being angled like it is. i could've not used the insert, but I really liked the idea of it being slanted like that so i had to make a trip to Lowes and modify it a little to make it work... I actually don't have the Keeley Compressor anymore - its a Suhr Riot pedal now and I am probably going to sell the OCD for a clean boost OR another Riot so I can have two settings... that pedal rocks... We must've come from the same mother cause my previous rig was just like yours too and I also wanted to get away from the rackmount stuff as soon as I saw the G-System I was like yeah baby! Everyone is like just rackmount it and use an ethernet cable and I'm like dude... I got rid of my rack for a reason...! Not going back! :)

So as far as the morpheus firmware update I'll be curious to hear from you the difference it makes so do tell! Anyway here's some pics and thanks for taking the time to reply - glad to know its working well for you in your rig so I can go the same route.

Talk atcha later brother - I see you're in Houston - I lived in Houston for 7 years and visited my Mom in October and have a sister in Austin too - I went to Westfield High School if that rings a bell - not sure how long you've lived there...?

Sweet board bro. Nice and clean. Are you on the G-System forum as well? Your rig looks real familiar to me. I'm pretty sure I recognize it from the ''Show your G-System Rig" thread. That's my next project is to clean mine up. My case is 35 3/4" x 25" I wish I could use something smaller but I couldnt get everything to fit. I started putting my current rig together this time last year and just finished getting everything I want for now. My immediate GAS for stuff has been quenched so I'm gonna focus on cleaning up the board some. I need to take everything off and tame some of the cable craziness. Possibly switch out my short Monster gold patch cables in the G's loops for some George L's depending how clean I want it to look. Then look into some kind of insert to hide all the cables. What did you use for yours? I did the Morpheus update a little while ago but it's Monday and I've been to lazy to hook my rig up and try it out. But I will sometime this week and let you know my thoughts. Oh, I've lived in Houston since I was 3 so about 35 years now. I'm basically a native. Love my Stros' Texans and Rockets. Hook em' Horns!

Thanks man! and yes! I posted these pics on the G-System board so I'm sure that's where you've seen them. I'm like you, my immediate needs have been fulfilled now just trying to sort it all out and I basically have 3 live rigs now for different applications so I am pretty covered there from a versatility standpoint, but always tweaking - you know how that is... I just recently got the Eleven Rack so that's opened up a million other possibilities that I really didn't need - LOL... I've just gotten so freakin' lazy... the less gear the better, but then I have this G-System just sitting around more than anything and it's sad really! The pedalboard is just tooooooooo big for these little gigs I do and with rehearsals carrying all that back and forth - I'm too old...! LOL

Yeah the George L's are the way to go for cleanliness - I was able to drill little tiny holes the size of the cable so it's real clean that way. The insert is just a piece of laminate and along with some aluminum from lowes I had to buy to reconfigure the bracing underneath because it originally did not have the hole in it obviously so right down the middle was an aluminum brace which I had to remove and place 2 more (one on each side of the G-System) to strengthen it back up so it wouldn't fall apart stepping on pedals and what not. There's a guy here in town who builds them, but he's a jerk and I told him I'd never refer anyone to him which I'm sort of over by now. He makes great cases - but he royally screwed me... long story... So I had to do the modification myself which HE was supposed to do and it took about 3 hours cause I never used a rivot gun before - LOL and not great with a jigsaw either... Stuff that cuts and involves hands and fingers make me nervous as hell! I waited FOREVER for him to do what I did in 3 hours so it was good experience nonetheless. So everything is underneath the insert which is awesome, and I've actually redone the power where it plugs into the back part of the insert behind the wireless and not running out the side (lime green cord) so I can detach it more easily and roll it up with the snake and put it on the G-System and throw the lid on there.

Our bedroom is burnt orange BTW... :) Hook 'Em! but I am an Oilers/Titans fan since I lived here when they moved. Love the Stros' - miss my Astro Pops - Astroworld and all that - but being born in Chicago, I'm a Bulls fan at heart, but love the Rockets too... Crazy ass Bud Adams flippin' people off... he's got issues... but I love the Titans. Glad they secured Vince - I am still holding out hope for the kid I want him to succeed in the NFL so bad to shut up all the naysayers - he's got such great potential if he can get his head screwed on right.

Talk about a tangent! what was this thread about again? LOL - oh yeah! So yeah let me know on the Morpheus and if you want to know about the case deal - I don't WANT to send him business but I'm all for helping someone and setting my personal issues aside - but if you have a local case vendor there which I'm sure you do, I can send pics of the think if the ones I posted don't show enough and they can do that for you for practically nothing I would imagine.

Talk to ya later
