The last two posts are a fucking disgrace!

I wish no one would've ever made this thread, it's going downhill so fast
Quit your crying Nate...the tubes were faulty and that's why it sounds bad! :gethim:

I didn't notice they were going bad until everything else sounded so much better

so wait? i can buy a gross of dunlop green tortex plectrums for what? 23 bux?
and still retain my same tone with all 144 of them?

or buy one pick for 25$ that will wear down just as fast, or get lost, or whatever else happens to them that i dont care to keep track of?

no thanks.

this is akin to buying bottled water.

personal opinion is personal opinion - if they work for you great! but at $25 a pick - its snake oil.

Ok, it's your opinion that it's snake oil. But if they're good enough for a guy like Carl Roa...

They do wear down, just not as quickly as most picks. And to the poster who said "because guy's who are successful dont NEED a $25 pick" that is a pretty broad statement and an insult to the likes of Carl Roa and Andy Wood as well as some others who I would consider successful.

yeah, but look at the flip side....if you suck, a $25 pick ain't gonna make you not suck =)

Nothing against Andy or Carl but,
1) Guitar players that have had a bigger impact on music used regular picks. Cheap crappy picks. $25 would buy you 1,000,000 of them. They used them for centuries... LOL! :D They'd throw them out into the audience.

2) Both Andy and Carl are awesome guitar players who will kick ass with a $.01 pick... or a $25 pick, so anyone who buys this pick thinking they're gonna some how play better is only fooling themselves.

I think the picks are way overpriced, and for the record I only bought one because of this. I use dunlop Jazz III's instead. However I could tell a difference in pick glide and it helped make some things seem to work better to me. I think you are correct about Andy and Carl's playing and any pick would do, but for some reason they did choose these. Just saying...

I'm a pick fanatic and I tried the Red Bear and thought they sounded to bright for me. They are beautiful real tortise shell and work extremely well for speed picking as u can customize with beveling, but I was surprose how thick and stiff a "heavy" was. I don't know but it also took forever to get two picks delivered with me having to email twice. I thought the V picks had a better tone IMO.

I bought 2 picks out of curiosity, waited 6 weeks. Got them. Great picks, just the right size in thickness, between 1,4 and 2 mm (my regular Ultex sharps). BUT. It lasted for 2 three hours rehearsals and a 2 hour gig.
By the end of the gig, it was so worn I can't play it anymore. Will I buy some more? Sure, 72 Ultex sharps for almost the same price.

Got my Classic after five weeks. Worth it- Yes. I ordered another one. Awesome pics. Have to see how it lasts.

Hey Guys,

Read a good part of this thread ... I can sympathize with the folks who say they Red Bears are expensive. They ARE expensive. Is it worth it? Well, no one can answer that question for you. You'd have try it for yourself ... I was very surprised by the post by aftec saying he only got a few hours out of his Red Bear. I say that, because I have literally gotten 6 months out of mine! (Lil Jazzer Heavy Gauge) And that is with playing all the notes I can throw at it!  I don't see how you could wear this pick out in a few hours ... maybe he had a defective pick? Or ... maybe he soaked it in water. Apparently the Red Bear picks shouldn't be dropped in water.

Also ... they are not real tortoise shell. They are made from an animal protein.

I used the Dunlop Jazz III for years. Great pic ... but those DID wear down after a few hours of playing. I was always filing them. When I found the Red Bears, I was over joyed. Mostly because they SOUNDED better than the Dunlop. And the wear factor is amazing ... months of wear ... and improved tone. Not a bad deal mathematically speaking IF you don't LOSE the pic! I would have spent a lot more then $25 over 6 months on Dunlops. Plus all the time spent filing them so they would have a smooth edge ... often right out of the bag. So there is a time save factor too. (for me anyway)

Being "successful" has nothing to do with it ... there are plenty of successful guitar players out there with "bad" tone! A pic is part of the chain ... you can't replace your hands ... but everything past that point is up for grabs! We're all nuts about gear ... and the never ending tone quest. Red Bear was an excellent upgrade for me and was a lot cheaper than the rest of the chain!

Dunno. I did not do anything special. I'll try to dig it up and make some pictures. It never met with water.

because guy's who are successful dont NEED a $25 pick - the same as why Telephant can rip the fretboard to shreds and walk all over me with a 100W marshall and do it left handed while singing.

Imagine how fast he'd be with a Red Bear pick...
