Nothing against Andy or Carl but,
1) Guitar players that have had a bigger impact on music used regular picks. Cheap crappy picks. $25 would buy you 1,000,000 of them. They used them for centuries... LOL! :D They'd throw them out into the audience.

Yes but if these had been available many would have tried them because of the simple fact of wanting anything that could shape their tone or playing style in any way.

2) Both Andy and Carl are awesome guitar players who will kick ass with a $.01 pick... or a $25 pick, so anyone who buys this pick thinking they're gonna some how play better is only fooling themselves.

Totally agree, but anybody who buys one to check out if it adds anything to their playing, or anything else they feel is an improvement is not fooling themselves.

Hey Guys,

Read a good part of this thread ... I can sympathize with the folks who say they Red Bears are expensive. They ARE expensive. Is it worth it? Well, no one can answer that question for you. You'd have try it for yourself ... I was very surprised by the post by aftec saying he only got a few hours out of his Red Bear. I say that, because I have literally gotten 6 months out of mine! (Lil Jazzer Heavy Gauge) And that is with playing all the notes I can throw at it!  I don't see how you could wear this pick out in a few hours ... maybe he had a defective pick? Or ... maybe he soaked it in water. Apparently the Red Bear picks shouldn't be dropped in water.

Also ... they are not real tortoise shell. They are made from an animal protein.

I used the Dunlop Jazz III for years. Great pic ... but those DID wear down after a few hours of playing. I was always filing them. When I found the Red Bears, I was over joyed. Mostly because they SOUNDED better than the Dunlop. And the wear factor is amazing ... months of wear ... and improved tone. Not a bad deal mathematically speaking IF you don't LOSE the pic! I would have spent a lot more then $25 over 6 months on Dunlops. Plus all the time spent filing them so they would have a smooth edge ... often right out of the bag. So there is a time save factor too. (for me anyway)

Being "successful" has nothing to do with it ... there are plenty of successful guitar players out there with "bad" tone! A pic is part of the chain ... you can't replace your hands ... but everything past that point is up for grabs! We're all nuts about gear ... and the never ending tone quest. Red Bear was an excellent upgrade for me and was a lot cheaper than the rest of the chain!

Carl
Well said man!

Like I said earlier, what's the difference in spending thousands on a modded amp vs buying a Ceriatone, and spending 20 bucks on a pick vs a box of em if it makes you play and sound better. It's pretty hypocritical and funny to me. I mean we could all just play an Egnater renegade or a Ceriatone Chupacabra and get 85% of the same tone as our Fortins, Friedmans, Diezels etc.
But we don't settle for the 85% because it's the small details, it's the last 15% of fine tuning that makes our tone special. Well it's the same situation with the picks. Like Carl said: "Red Bear was an excellent upgrade for me and was a lot cheaper than the rest of the chain!" It won't be for everyone, but it makes me sound and play better so it's worth it for me.

I could be a friend to all of you....
Dude, why do you come into all of these threads with nothing to offer except your cheap insults and bad attitude?
He's an icon here and has allot to offer. He could be your friend :hys:

Update. I've been playing my classic II for approx. an hour and a half per day for about three weeks. It shows no wear and I pick fairly hard. I ordered another one. I had to adjust just a very little bit to stop chirping but now I love it. Killer pic.

I've bought a bunch of them. They sound and feel great, my only issue is I like to keep a pick in my pocket at all times and you can't do that with them. They'll warp like mad. Also, I forgot one in my pocket when going fishing and they definitely do not like water. I took it out when I got back to shore and it was bent at a near 90 degree angle. They make these things very clear on the site before buying though so no big deal if you're careful. I've started to keep V-Picks on me and my Red Bears with my guitars.
