My "issue" is with a certain faction (you've seen them being in music retail) that tries to buy credibility rather than earn it...the right hair, clothes, boots, etc and the hippest gear but can't play anything outside of barre chords and the minor pentatonic box.

But I have to ask... Who cares. You can't buy MUSICAL credibility with hair, clothes, boots and gear. The only thing you get is the credibility of being a trendy collector. You'll be exposed as soon as you post your first clip (if you dare). And I'll add that if you just dig looking like a rocker and owning the coolest gear, even though you can barely play, i see nothing wrong with that. Do whatever makes you happy. Life is difficult and if you are more pleasant when I encounter you because you spent the evening looking at all your cool gear, all the better. Everybody wins. Yay!!!

Nobody should have any true deep-seeded caring about any of this shit...it's merely a topic of light conversation. Did a bunch of you wake up today with a big bowl full of analytical flakes? It's a simple matter of tastes and opinions.

As for "who cares?", why even bother posting then? If something doesn't interest someone, wouldn't they be better served by ignoring it rather than addressing it in a condescending manner?

First of all, my response was not condescending in the least, so I have no idea what you mean there. Second, I'm genuinely interested. Why do YOU care about people who can't play but dress the part and buy expensive relic'd gear that they didn't "earn"? What credibility do they get as musicians by doing it that you say you have a problem with? I'm interested in why you care...

If you can't understand what's condescending about telling someone "who cares?" in response to something they've said, I don't think anything else I could say would help you figure it out. I mean seriously, you're not a dummy...you don't see it? And that's not to say how you actually meant it...I don't believe you said it to be mean-spirited.

Beyond that, I don't truly care about any of this to any great degree...once again it was simply a topic of conversation. I'm not sure how most people operate on an internet forum, but I don't take time to think through everything that I might post and decide if its worthy of discussion and/or analysis. Are there certain traits that some people have that you find annoying? That's where I was coming from...nothing more...I never intended to dive too deep with this one.

That said, can you just answer my questions in the last post of mine you quoted, or is all we're gonna discuss here whether my post was condescending or not? I've asked twice now and I'm genuinely interested in your thoughts...

"Relicing" furniture, cabinets and other every day items has been around for who knows how long. I've not looked into the history or origins, but glazing furniture finishes and newly gold leafed items has probably been around for well over a century and for all I know (guessing), centuries.

Different strokes...

Japanese "roku ware" style pottery dates back to the 15-16th century and is purposely given a crackled aged look and hand thrown. Imperfection is celebrated.
People have been building furniture from driftwood and fallen trees forever.

Just a different look for things. Don't see why people get offended by it? Sound, feel, and playability should be the important things in a instrument IMHO.

How many here have toured and gigged every night for 20+ years the same guitar ala SRV/ Rory Gallagher. I'll bet not one. You're not gonna get that wear in 50 years in Madison Square Basement.

Not everyone has the same natural talent and/ or has the years of playing/ practicing behind them.

If some doctor or lawyer got a $5g master built heavy relic strat say 5 years ago and started playing blues riffs in his spare time through his dumble clone or victoria tweed so what???
Drives the industry, provides more gear options to others, supports guitar and amp builders and shops both large and small...
Most important the guys relaxes, gets stoked, has his friends and family enjoy it (maybe??? ), and IS MAKING MUSIC...

Never understood why someone would get so upset about it. I think it is a great thing.

Don't like hacked blues? Don't go to an open jam night at a bar. Don't like reliced stuff? Go buy something else.
