Rhoads; live solo, 1979

He was more into classical; rumors were that he planned to leave Ozzy to study classical guitar IIRC
that and I think from some of the recent interviews I've seen with people that were around the " camp " at the time .... saying he was already getting tired of Sharon's managerial performance ...... especially something about he didn't want to do an album with Sabbath tunes on it ... I guess it was supposed to happen after Diary .... what ended up being Speak of the Devil maybe ?? which I always thought was a "hurry up and get something out there" ... after Randy had passed

Sarzo outlines it pretty well in his book. Randy was definitely leaving. The deal was he would do an album of Black Sabbath shit and that would fulfill his contractual obligation then he was out. He was not a sabbath fan and didn’t want to do the album, but he wanted out so….

I’ve not seen that one. What could have been ……
That’s been around for a long time. It’s not the only one, or it’s shortened. You can hear parts that eventually wound up being Dee, Goodbye To Romance and other well known songs a few years later.

My thoughts on the performance are that it’s obvious he was a bad mother fucker even then, but the songs QR was writing weren’t particularly conducive to showcasing the depth of his playing. Once he began working with Bob Daisley the real magic happened. Daisley was a conduit. One of those guys who excelled at writing and arranging songs around someone’s particular talents. He was key. Daisley was largely responsible for the fusion of classical and metal that Randy brought to the world. And he was a very interesting and talented bassist to boot.
