Have to disagree on Robin Trower, saw him last year for the 1st time and totally loved the show, he played and sounded great, he just released a new record so no reason to stop..

That's why you liked it, because it was the first time you saw him.
I saw him at MSG in '76, Shea Stadium '76, and dozens more times. The power and intensity of the band were stellar.
Now, he tours with his regular cast of pick-up players, who do nothing for his music. Everything is in D tuning and slow dirges.
One of my top influences but I gave up on him. I heard a cut off his upcoming album. More shitty tunes, IMO. Songs based on cheap shit riffs.

Nothing is as powerful as playing songs you wrote to a large crowd and they are singing the songs back to you louder than the band. I played in an Iron Maiden tribute band and the crowd was louder than us on a few songs, it was crazy!

This is a full circle life moment and I love it. I'm a big DP fan and will be nice to see them put past issues to rest and have some closure. The last time they were together, Ritchie threw water at Ian and screwed the tour up:

In the documentary, they said that was kind of the last straw. I mean he doesn't even "appear" until the solo. I think he had issues and he seems to be coming to grips with his age, mortality, etc.

Well, in the interviews in the video, the rest of the band was pissed, as you would imagine. He came in in the middle of the second song!

I'll have to disagree with you on Trower, Carl. He still puts on great shows. His chops are probably only 80-90% of what they once were, but you don't walk away from a performance feeling sorry for him.
He also won't tour without putting out a new album.

I see where you’re coming from, I felt the same way about EVH in his last years..as for me I would be more than happy to pay to see Trower again, of course I would have loved to have seen him in the 70’s, but we can always turn on YouTube and see the old days

It's really kind of remarkable that they had the entire MkII lineup they got famous with other than John Lord (deceased), and he was replaced by Don who was at least in Rainbow.

Deep Purple would never use backing tracks like the hacks you mentioned and as far as a limited amount of oxygen in the room … that’s purely subjective. Les Paul performed till the day he died in his 90’s . If you love music , play it .Hopefully they stop
I have no problem with bands playing late into their 50s, 60s, or 70s - there's tons of great older bands putting on great shows
but once it gets sad like this, where the band has to use mostly backing tracks like kiss and crue, and where the musicians are visibly enfeebled it's just gross and exploitative

Theres a limited amount of oxygen in the room, and for every band like Deep purple sucking all of it up, there are hundreds of bands waiting in the wings that deserve to breathe a little

No, that's objective, there are only so many venues, so much time, and so many bands to fill slots at gigs
It's fine when older bands are still going strong, but when they are sick, enfeebled, and obviously incapable of playing (to the point where like crue and kiss they DONT play anymore) that's disgusting and exploitative
I didn't say that deep purple (without ritchie) was that. I said hopefully it's ritchies last gig/last hurrah, because he's in poor health and doesn't need to be gigging anymore.
It's repulsive, exploitative, and vulgar. People used to have respect for people that were older and in poor health. And older musicians used to be able to retire with some sense of dignity intact.

Music legend . Maybe in your own mind. I don’t know where the other bands you mention fall into a Deep Purple thread , it’s not like they could ever hold their jock straps anyway . This place is hilarious!
