I remember going to Jones Beach as a little kid...it was a long walk across the hot sand to get to the water.

Man, I hate to say it, but Richie dwarfs that guitar. It looks like a cheap toy in his hands. But I love the headstock tuner, he's the Musical Legend living my dream in Long Island and I'm his economically unviable replicant living in a sleepy town somewhere and unable to shred worth a damn.

FWIW, Blackmore was one of my main inspirations for learning to play guitar; along with Hendrix, and the Beatles...cuz I'm older than many here.

Eventually Page, and Kiss, became a big influence to middle school me, and why my first real guitar was a new '78 Gibson Les Paul custom and not a Strat...though I nearly purchased an Ibanez PS10 (I now own a Gibson Les Paul, a Strat, and two PS10).

Too bad Blackmore didn't reunite with DP when Lord was still with them. I'd always wanted Blackmore & Lord to do a music project together...

Back in my playing days, which is in the 70s and 80s I would’ve died for a clip on tuner, just to be able to have it.
We had to tune by ear by necessity, it sucked.

Yeah for all of us that are older, we get it. Someone posts something like this and instead of people focusing on the magic of this influential band finally burying the hatchet and doing a song together with a guy that is suffering with health problems, it is being over analyzed.

I'm almost 60 and am the singer and guitarist in a punk band. We do gigs with much younger punk and rock bands and we have a blast with these guys and gals. I could give a shit ehat my age is. I'm going to keep playing because I enjoy it. It makes me happy and allows me to be opposite of people that sit on their phones, watch Game of Thrones marathons, etc. I'm out doing and creating music instead of talking about idiotic politics and all of this other crap.

Has anyone been to a show lately? People recording the whole show or getting up and down constantly to get nachos, get a shirt, get a drink, get a sticker. Sit down and watch the damn show! What the hell happened to humans?

It isn't the age that's the issue in and of itself - there's tons of bands that are rocking hard well into their 50s or 60s or whatever. I've both seen and played with a bunch of them.

It's that when someone is of advanced age, and is clearly physically unwell, it is exploitative of both the artist and the fans to keep playing at some point.

That's why most of the sane people in this comment section are hoping this is Ritchie's last hurrah. He's been gigging the last couple of years with Blackmore's Night and it's been brutal. He deserves to retire with his dignity intact. That's also why Crue and Kiss were brought up. Because they are completely physically incapable of putting on a show anymore, so they fucking fake it.

I am 41 and I play multiple gigs a week in a couple original bands. At least the places I play, no one ever is getting nachos, buying shit (until after the show or in between band's sets) and no one is sitting down whatsoever.

Yeah i get what you are saying. I don't want to see my heroes embarrass themselves but I also want people to realize when something is a sendoff or a moment. Ritchie absolutely shouldn't tour anymore..at all. As a Deep Purple fan, i'm just glad he got to play with them one last time. His playing sucked but it was about the moment. I heard the interview with him and he sounds like somone with some dementia, etc.

I don't know if you've had a loved one with dementia or alzheimer's or really bad MS or something, but if it was my grandfather up there i would feel a certain way about it to put it nicely. And that's before we add in the factor of nostalgia-bait concert tours and memba-berry factories.

I don’t think he’s got dementia. He talks slower than normal, but he could be medicated. God knows what kind of pills he’s taking, but he seems very sharp of mind when he’s being interviewed.

We’ve been losing a lot of heroes of late. Ozzy comes to mind. Just 15 days before his death, it was like a carnival spectacle where he was seated in a chair and all these bands (including one which earned a Grammy for a song that Ozzy was never recognised for with an award) played tribute.

It was sad seeing him like that. He looked feeble and old and probably was wondering if he could just go home and chill with a few brews.

Lemmy was the same way, touring until he was put in the grave.

Wouldn’t want that for Blackmore. I recognise him as an immense talent, as everybody should. But when the stage light has gone off, he should just do his bows and make his exit.
