im not talking about an amp that will help you with vh, thats the last thing im talking about. if you can play it then you should be able to do everything unplugged on an electric that is vs. plugged in. do you need a hot rodded acoustic to play orange blossom special?

Curt you heretic. Is this the same Chubtone that is disinterested in modding amps as of late and that people shouldn't be wasting time chasing tone? Ah well. I should be practicing instead of clicking amp threads anyway, right?... :D

Just got done drinking a power size matcha green tea blast with vitaboost reading this

if you work with the peacemaker long enough you get amazing results
it roars

I think that's because they are diehard EVH fans and if I'm being honest, Rockstahs clips are more on point with what they like then any of the PM clips Ive heard other then maybe Vics original clips. I think that they are thinking that Vic is using your typical MM transformer and I agree that he's not. FWIW, I guess they will have something to compare because if I know Mark(rockstah) He will yank the MM and put in another one just for the sake of it lol :D

Ralph,
I haven't been keeping up with the threads on Metro, but obviously Rockstah has uncovered that tone and the specs to that tone. Let me ask though since the secrets are known now and obtainable, are ALL those guys getting that tone with their Metro builds and if not, why not? i mean Ralle has been nailing it closer than anyone would ever need to be for years and he always posts his specs, his wrong pickup in his guitar, the wrong bodywood yet he's sick. Now Rockstah absolutely knocks it out of the park for EVH tones too.

My question is what happens when someone sends Rockstah their plexi and he builds it to his specs and records a clip with it that knocks everyone dead. When he ships that exact amp to it's customer, do they spend the next three years asking Rockstah what pickup he hadm what bodywood, what years his speakers were made, where he put the mic on the speaker etc? You know what I'm asking. What are those exact amps going to sound like in a guy that doesn't channel EVH to the T but still really likes that tone and vibe? Is it going to be there or is it going to turn into this chase like a lot of us PM owners have been on that has only been decided that Vic has the best sounding guitar that has ever been built?

I mean I love my Peacemaker I think.... but if I had Rockstah's plexi right next to it, would I still be wondering how I can get the EVH tone?

Yeah at one point, After our little internet jam we did, I asked if he would nt mind experimenting with my 50w NMV and was VERY detailed in asking me questions about the amp and told me to send me pics of everything inside about it before i sent it off, which i never got around to doing....but it defintely sounds he was looking to get into these EVH tweaking mods and I told him that Im not really chasing the EVH tone, but he had mentioned he was on to something that rivaled it but it had to be the right amp. i dunno, i go back and forth with this and i think if i were to have one of my heads modded to what i want , i would probably call Mr. Fortin ..has anybody heard if Frank Levy is still doing mods?

Shit, Rockstah should work with you and create The Ant cause you have some of the best marshall tone on the planet, you are the one who got me really looking into marshall and myself.

That was advice to a 15 year old who is spending way too much time on forums and spending way too much time reading about and worrying about gear. When he can rip on guitar and his tone is the last piece of the puzzle to be put in place, then it's time. Now he's saying he doesn't even want to practice if his tone isn't right and he has no money.

Freakin' stalker. :D

well im flattered that u think so buddy and glad i can get u into Marshall Madness! Im never satisfied with what i have, except for my JMP 78 100 w Master Volume. out of all my marshalls, that one is the most consistent and behaves the way i want it too then my others. My 74' NMV has a mind of its own and sounds too abrasive sometimes...thats why i chose that to experiment with. we'll see..

and here's a cool looking RED PM for sale, by a guy Brian Bunn who plays in a band i mentioned a while ago, decemberadio. they played at our church touring with the Newsboys and i hung out with Brian and sampled some hermida pedals with him--great player which you can see on one of my YT vids where he plays the zendrive through his matchless combo in concert.

they rock and he plays solos old school style, and they won Christian rock album of the year "Satisfied" chock full o Peacemaker tones, and were grammy nominated.

I understand that people heard Vic and bought peacemakers and were unsatisfied with their abilitly to nail VH, but I'm glad it doesn't sound like VH out of the box.
I wanted a classic plexi tone with some fire, a thick warm sound, and enough bottom end. The Peacemaker does that for me and it manages to have it's own sound.

As for the modded peacemaker, I listened to that last night and it did not sound good to me...sounded weird. I don't get it. My stock peacemaker sounds warm and full, not fizzy on the top end.

Why don't some of you go up to the plexi palace with your peacemakers and use Vic's guitar and see if that's the secret?

if that doesn't work, take a look at his fingers... :D

ive heard and seen vic on several occasions now plug in to his peacemaker with that brown strat and his green carvin and drill VH tone for chords. i've always thought that he needed more something for leads to propel the flutter factor---rockstah gets that with his mods.

but i'm not impressed with the rockstah mod on the PM either, and i dont think he was either..but i LOVE his mods on his creations and i think it's truly the closest VH brown sound tone i've ever heard, plus he can play like eddie so accurately--gets into his headspace/hand vibrato/touch--and the extra gain or whatever he does mod-wise to allow more legato speed---that helps.

zach and i still think the PM is the be all end all off the shelf rock tone amp platform when set up properly (cranked/attenuated/pedal/delay, etc)
the chord clarity, the way the high strings respond for leads, the explosive throttle and cutoff of the tone...no mush, tons of dynamics.

sure there are easier amps to play with more gain,
and i like the deliverance 60 and PT100 in the "hot marshall with the right clarity and voice and friendly gain" category,

and still haven't heard anything that tops the cameron for the "ultra high gain with spongy feel yet clear TONE" category

I've always been perfectly happy with the VH tones I got out of the PeaceMaker. Especially VHII type tones. To my ears it was as close as I ever needed to get since I'm not Ed. :) Do other people do it better with other amps? Maybe, but it is a matter of taste to me and everyone's ears hear things a bit differently. I'm also not as obsessive about this as some others are...

My only issue with the PM was the volume required and the fact that I wanted more versatility... and I wanted to try the Axe-Fx, which I love... I'd recommend the PM to anyone, it is a great amp...

I don't think any of us have heard Rockstah's completed mod of the Peacemaker. What you are hearing is an amp that was already modded and then sent to Rockstah to be modded again. He recorded the clip after making a few changes to the existing mod and decided that it wasn't there at all. So he returned it to stock to see what a PM was all about. He said the stock spec PM kicked ass and that he was going to do a few tweaks to it from the stock specs.

And listen here Pentahoytian, Vic is freaking LEFT-HANDED dude! That's the killer. We can't play his guitar.

I would start learning how to play left handed if I were you...

Here is a thought for you nutjobs chasing around this tone................

Since now you are all pissed that Vic's MAHAGONY bodied guitar is a lefty why dont you just drop the whole marshall based amp and try with maybe a boogie???

I mean the wood has zero to do with the tone as we can plainly see and you aint happy with all these marshall based amps so try something else.

You're pushing it Mr. Three Weeks With a Stock Marshall Plexi Before Sending it Off To Be Modded. If any of us chased that tone as aggressively as you chased Steve Vai at NAMM, we'd all have restraining orders slapped on us TOO.

'cept he's chasing on a tricycle with a bent front tire, wearing overalls and a helmet,
holding a pinwheel in one hand.

Just kidding you gargling 'mo!

I have that extreme strat and it's the same config as vic,
and when I plugged that into the dirty boy, good things happened!

Frankly I don't understand it but that particular formula of guitar just matches up perfectly with mojaves, for that aggresive rock sound.
I suppose that is a good thing though versus any guitar plugging into another amp sounding no different from one another.

Mixo has a good point about using the PM to create your own sound even though it's the vh thing that brings you to the amp initially.

Honestly, I'm finding that for what I like in rock tones, Mahogany body w/maple cap and Mahogany neck w/Pao Ferro board is seeming like the ticket... The new Suhr Guthrie I got is sounding AWESOME...

I'm with you, I think the stock peacemaker is brown enough

I will say this: with everyone except EVH
the fingers thing is true
but with evh, the amp really does have a lot to do with it

but I think having a vintage cab and vintage speakers
and the exact guitar will have something to do with it as well
