Rush - 2112 Overture Temples of Syrinx and Grand Finale - 50 Something tour - LA opening night

Your ears are hearing a very loud concert through a $15 inbuilt mic likely with post-processing.
But some live videos sound KILLER through a $15 inbuilt mic likely with post-processing?

Why do some sound great and others not so much? Don't try to act like a cell phone can't capture a good recording in 2026.

The mics haven't changed much, but the software post-processing has. Meaning it sounds "good", but it's not an accurate reflection of the source audio.

Spicy thread is spicy :dunno:
Not the first, nor the last time I'll have some man-baby call me a 'retard' for using technical knowledge to mildly challenge their feelings-based conclusions

I'd love to have seen Mark Zonder (Fates Warning) have a crack at the drummer role for this reunion. Crazy seeing him use a traditional grip for metal.

They sound great!
Geddy's voice can get a little wavery at times but at 72 years old, full points to him. No easy feat!
The tour literally just started so they will continue to play even better as it goes along.

Regardless, really happy they are touring!

Mike actually said he would not want that gig as to have to live up to the scrutiny and pressure of living up to Peart.

All the social media on this show is all on Anika and "wow she can actually play" LOL. It's actually a slight to her even though most people don't realize it.

8-year-old kids on you tube is playing Neals drums flawlessly. and not a knock-on Peart at all, one of the greatest drummers of all time.

But most good drummers can play his stuff, just like most good guitars players can play any of our hero's stuff. and Anika is proof. Most were surprised by the choice. But like I said, many teenagers cut their teeth on Peart drumming.

Great post. I'm sitting here laughing watching people up in arms about this. They sound fine. Go watch current videos on Dokken, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue and get back to me. A bunch of old cranky flaccid dicks on here anymore :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Probably some of the videos have an audio source from better audio recording equipment.

On the tapehead2 vid, the person has been a long-time audio-video recorder of Rush concerts and he typically lists the recording equipment he uses when he uploads a show on The Traders Den.

Oh wow, you are Baron from Baron amps? Still up and running? Hope you are doing well.

I'm a bug Rush fan. They are #2 on my list of all time favorites. I LOVE them.

That said, I didn't like this. Geddy's voice is not good and I don't like Anika's playing. When they announced it was her, I checked out a bunch of her videos and I just don't like her style. That goes for her doing the Rush stuff too. She sounds like she's always ahead of the beat or something.

Not a fan. Wish they would've just hung it up on a high note (pun intended.) But here we are....

And before someone asks... No, I don't have videos of me playing drums better than her, singing better than Geddy, me playing sold out arenas, etc...
Alex's real amps sound much better in this 2015 R40 tour clip. As Carl stated about the modeling amps compared to real amps...once again real amps for the win. The timing issues with Niles drumming becomes apparent when you listen to Peart's performance from 11 years ago. His drumming is exacting and almost relaxed in a way by comparison, she may be a pro drummer but you can tell she is being challenged.

Alex Lifeson’s 2015 R40 tour amp rig utilized a hybrid, cabinet-free wet/dry/wet setup. It centered around Hughes & Kettner Triamp MKII heads (for dry and effects signals), the Lerxst Omega (his signature 50-watt amp for dirty tones), and a Mesa/Boogie Mark Five (for pristine cleans)

I still think Mike Portnoy would have been a better selection for the drumming gig.

Mikes a real Rush whore. I've seen him*YouTube "video with a Rush cover band.
He nails Neils timing to the max.

The chick drummer is crazy good and can't wait to see if they cut a record with her

Portnoy yeah, but Danny Carey better and let him do his thing with the songs. He knows the the Peart shit let him take it up a notch if he can. Instead they got somebody that's not gonna make it all about themselves, even though it is. Everybody is watching this chick. Yeah, she can play the parts, big deal, but I didn't see in these clips much chemistry between them.
And Ged hire a fucking singer already you're ruining any legacy you had with this struggle fest and this is the first night it's only gonna go downhill from here. Oh but it wouldn't be Rush without Geddy's vocal atrophy and warbling all over the place.
Well, call it Rush 2 then. I mean it is anyways, 1/3 of the band is gone. But no, it's just a money grab and just another chink in the legacy.

As far as the digital amp deal. Wasn't his reasoning behind this so he can have period specific tones? I really can't imagine all of that helping his playing and I couldn't tell by the clips if that was going on or not and what's with him working his pedalboard himself? No automatic midi switching based on the song or no cable monkey, I mean tech to do it for him?

* And if I paid these crazy prices to see these guys and they played that excruciatingly long, absolutely painful intro cartoon or whatever that was. Well I know if I brought my girl along to see Rush for the first time and she saw that she'd definitely be looking at me a bit differently.

Two words. Glen Hughes.

Not sure how he does it.

I’d much rather be them on stage than posting about it in a forum. Kudos to them. They’re legends.

It's not just this forum. It's many other ones and you see the whiners bitching about this chick.

Any serious self proclaimed diehard mega RUSH fan should just fuck off and evaluate their own personal lives. You mean to tell me the band that you've idolized since your discovery of them has questionable decisions and how dare they play with the person they chose? You don't even trust your own idols decision??

And the other people who say "oh...pffft....so and so drummer is an infinite better pick or way better drummer for the job". You've clarified you've never been in a serious band in your life nor performed live with one questionably.

Its called VIBING with other musicians. They can be on a world class level. If you don't vibe with them, its not a good fit no matter how you dice it. Plenty of super groups in the making have dissolved for this very reason.

I'm not even a diehard Rush fan. I'm just puzzled as to when and why there are so many pussies on this forum now. What happened?

Fair, though he's definitely the exception. At the same time, I really don't get the whinging about Geddy's vocals. Nobody has ever gone to a Rush concert for the brilliant vocals. Hughes has always been a phenomenal vocalist.

The ones that are sad are the ones who were great in the day and they've just lost it in their old age. I can feel that!

I just listened to a few clips of Rush. They sound fine to me. They've aged gracefully, but they've still aged, and they still sound pretty great.

So, looks like a decent mix. You can actually hear the guitar.
Puts to rest Mr Audio (anal) Expert’s theory that you can’t get a decent cell phone video of a concert.😂
Rush last night-

Two more words: Roger Daltry

Saw them live back in Sept and he was amazing considering his age!
