Serious question: how do the majority of people in California survive economically? Not everyone has a Silicon Valley income. The cost of living everywhere sucks. In California, it’s 5x suck (that’s maths…). How can someone working a minimum wage job, even at the artificially inflated amount, or someone that sells cables from their mom’s basement, pay rent, buy gas and groceries, save for a retirement that doesn’t include Costco dry cat food? Inquiring minds want to know…

You can't, you have to work like 3-4 more jobs.
Figure it this way a power bill $250, rent for a one bedroom 2,500, food just for yourself and finding the groceries as cheap as you can, a hundred bucks a week there so 400 bucks a month. That's not included your phone and internet or anything else. Internet, phone ect.- 200 to 250.
And you haven't done shit, you're just sitting in your hovel. Don't forget about your 6 Plus dollar gallon of gas, you know that's a big bill too if you're going long distances everyday.
So you have at least $850 a week just to cover that stuff and most likely if you're in a situation like this your credit card debt is stacking up so you're looking probably 3- 400 bucks a month there. If you're single forget about it, having a girlfriend is a crazy expensive. It's cheaper to hire hookers.
So all in it's about 1500 dollars a week to live in this town.
Figure working 355 hours a month $16.90 @minimum wage, so that's 89 hours per week roughly.
